Guest Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I have a Peugeot 107 2010, 1 litre petrol engine. The car has been sat on a drive for a few days and has not been run, so the engine was cold.I took out the dipstick and the oil level was at the low end of the 2 indicators, so I wiped it clean and stuck it back in. Its always really hard to get in this dipstick, you really have to push it to get it bending. Then I took it out to look at the proper reading, and the oil had smudged all the way up the dipstick. Or on one side of the stick it would be low, and on the other side it would be high / above the maximum. Everytime I put it in its saying something different.I still have not run the engine, its doing my head in.We have had the car about 6 months and have done about 6000 miles, in that time we have not put any oil in the car but have been checking it on a regular basis, but not for the past maybe 8 weeks. The car is due a service, but im still a little worried about the oil. Ive got a feeling it might be pretty low, but I dont want to be wrong and end up with too much in there. I have no idea how dipsticks work or what the tube is you put them in, but it feels to me like there is oil in that tube, which is worrying. Please help Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 there will be traces of oil up the dipstick tube and that will rub off onto dipstick just take dipstick out wipe it clean insert it then pull it out again(waits for the comments) the oil level will be where the most oil is collected at base of dipstick between the lines hopefully Quote

I am either too weak or somebody very strong put it on Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 turn it anti clockwise i think it is 1/4 turn on that one then it should lift off Quote
Colin the Bear Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Ask a grown up to get the lid off. This works best with blokes but some grown up females have a good grip. When they come round leave out any pickles and jam that may need opening too. Quote
