Guest Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Hi guys, just had my bike put through its MOT had quite a bit of work that needed doing to it £293 to be precise. When I collected the bike I rode up the road and when I slowed down or stopped at lights etc it would stay at say 5000 revs then just go right down until it cut out.I took it back today and they said because my handle bars were not stock it may of been that the choke was pulling as it smelled as if it was running rich, they said they adjusted the choke cable a little but if it kept happening then I needed a new choke cable that was longer to compensate for the bars.I said it wasnt happening before I had the MOT though? He just said it was bad timing?Does anyone have an idea to what it could possibly be so I can rule out stuff and try to look at it myself?ANY help/advice would be great!Suzuki VL 125cc Quote
uk190 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 i had to change the choke cable on my VL. so i know a little about them. if they are suggesting that the choke is being activated and causin gthe bike to run over rich and subsequently stall then it is feesable. and yes it could just be bad timing. but unless they repositioned the choke cable durin gthe work thay carried out i doubt that it would now start to happen all on its own.the easiest thing to test this would be to disconnect the choke cable and see if the fault goes.it would also help us to know what work they carried out on the bike for the MOT. it might help to point to alternative causes. priest Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 so are you saying it stalls if not in motion? does is stall on neutral gear? does is stall having a gear in but clutch pulled? Does it ride normally? Quote
Guest Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 It drives fine but when I get to traffic lights etc or have to slow down to a stop the revs drop and it cuts out. I'm at the bike now and it's not the cables I'm moving them round and its not doing it. I'll try and link a video one sec Quote
Guest Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Type on you tube Suzuki vl 125 cutting out. You'll see. It's exactly that like Quote
Guest Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Well I seem to of fixed whatever the problem was. I think a hose near the chain was pinched by the fairing clips. I let it loose and changed the idle lower and it seems to b ok at the moment. Hmmm. Odd Quote
Mrbarry Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Odd? Or a garage working with haste and trapping a vac pipe then trying to say its not their fault? Its oh so common Quote
