Ricky Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 Nice piston I remember i was racing about in my mates RS turbo a couple of years ago, and bang, valve came into contact with the piston, damn that made a state of the crank casing.. piston and con-rod pushed straight through the side of the block..And even that piston didnt look as fecked as that one Haha, cheers its a thing of beauty, ain't it? I'm thinking it was just a really poor quality piston There didn't seem to be any damage on my crank case whatsoever it was all very good condition Quote
Ricky Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) I thought I'd give the rest of the parts a good polish and decided that instead of buying a new motorbike dashboard and trying my luck about finding a replacement I thought I'd buy a universal motorbike dashboard? Has anyone had previous experience with these? Are they easily fitted, would you recommend hoping to come across a replacement dashboard and has anyone links to a good dashboard? Thanks! Ricky Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Hi guys sorry I've not posted on here in a while I've still not got the frame back which is really starting to bug me :@Anyway I've decided to crack on with other parts. Is there anyway I can strip the rust off my exhaust pipe using home remedy stuff? I'm strapped for cash and this bike is sucking me dry (money).I also need a good dent remover?http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/117/imagelgq.jpghttp://img7.imageshack.us/img7/672/imagedsd.jpg Quote
Benn Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Well, when I'm restoring a drum kit, I use vinegar, lemon juice and wire wool to get rust off. You can then cover it in AC50 to keep the weather off. Quote
Ricky Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 I've got all that Does it have to be white or brown vineager? And the ingredients you said is that mixed together and how much of each? Thanks Quote
Benn Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I have never done it to a motorbike... I just have a bowl of vinegar and dip the wire wool in, scrub, dip, scrub etc. It's f**king disgusting, but works (on drum hardware). Lemon juice is a less disgusting, less effective alternative. Quote
Ricky Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Hey guys, was going to be good day today...Picked my frame up!Quite possibly the worst job I've seen!He didn't take the old bolts that I missed he's sprayed over them, so i take them out and paint peels off...Got scratches on it doesn't even look like he's attempted to sand it...Don't think he's even bothered to clean all the dirt off! Some pictures as soon as my phone charges up...I picked it up in a dim lit garage and didn't see until I got home...I'm well and truly pissed off He's taken 7 weeks with it and personally looks worse than it originally did... Bogof Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 HIs there anyway I can strip the rust off my exhaust pipe using home remedy stuff? I'm strapped for cash and this bike is sucking me dry (money). Tesco value coke will do it as it contains (dilute) phosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid may be used as a "rust converter", by direct application to rusted iron, steel tools, or surfaces. The phosphoric acid converts reddish-brown iron(III) oxide, Fe2O3 (rust) to black ferric phosphate, FePO4."Rust converter" is sometimes a greenish liquid suitable for dipping (in the same sort of acid bath as is used for pickling metal), but it is more often formulated as a gel, commonly called "naval jelly". It is sometimes sold under other names, such as "rust remover" or "rust killer". As a thick gel, it may be applied to sloping, vertical, or even overhead surfaces. After treatment, the black ferric-phosphate coating can be scrubbed off, leaving a fresh metal surface. Multiple applications of phosphoric acid may be required to remove all rust. The black phosphate coating can also be left in place, where it will provide moderate further corrosion resistance (such protection is also provided by the superficially similar Parkerizing and blued electrochemical conversion coating processes). Ricky Posted April 20, 2013 Author Posted April 20, 2013 http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/3332/imageiml.jpgStarting to take shape.Decided to crack on with the bike...Although the frame isn't mint but it will have to do.98% of the bad marks I won't see because the fairings are covering it up.If anyone near me fancies putting to wiring in for me and be in your debt...I got angry and broke the ignition set...50 quid set back... Fozzie Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 This is why you use some masking tape and a smart phone camera to remember where some bits go I could but its only because ive had to do this before with no reference. Get yourself an XR6 workshop manual, I downloaded one online when I worked on one. Quote
