Guest Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Hi guys, So I have noticed Im getting a fuel leak only when the engine is running coming from the petcock rear - where the suction thingy is. I took the tank off and took off the petcock and disassembled and cleaned it - the rubbers seem ok, but the thing has a hole built into it, where the leak is coming from!At a loss of what to do next! http://s24.postimg.org/ly25wvqup/IMG_20130513_162406.jpg Quote
Guest Hodgy Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 If it's leaking through the breather hole, then the chances are the diaphragm is punctured and needs replacing Quote
Guest Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 oh, so its a breather hole - thanks!Whats the diaphragm ? is that the rubber bit? which side? there are two many thanks! Quote

The diaphragm is the rubbery thing, the 2 sides should be held together in the middle with a metal bit that forms the valve that shuts off the supply of fuel when the vacuum is removed by switching the engine off. their not that expensive and usually come as part of a petcock service kit Quote
Guest Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Thanks Ian, found one on amazon - 20 quid! for a few bits of rubber! Guess kawasaki have to make their money somehow hahaIll have to leave it till I get paid in two weeks tho, hopefully the bike dont explode or catch fire in the meantime haha Quote
Guest Hodgy Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Here you go, a bit cheaper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-GPZ-500-S-EX500A3-1989-Petrol-Tap-Repair-Kit-Fuel-Seal-/200821397540?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item2ec1e35824 Quote
oslin06 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Just for the record the breather hole is to allow the diaphragm to move up and down without causing a vacuum behind it, which would stop it moving and opening and closing the tap.Keith Quote
