Ok folks, so, got a new chain and sproket put on, and 3 months on I have a stiff link and grinding noises.

I feel a little pissesd to be honest. Guy said he would put a decent chain and sproket set on, and I have been religion with cleaning and lube over the winter months.

Anyway, I don't have much experience with chains, (never had them be this crap, never lubed and cleaned on some bikes and been fine) and this may sound really stupid, but can I work the stiff link out with some pliers or take it off and 'service' the chain in some way to get stiff links out and do a proper clean? Or is it new chain time?

Wear wise it is fine, not worn as such and have not had to asjust much.

Cheers folks.

What have you been cleaning it with? If it's an o ring chain you can destroy the O rings with the wrong cleaner and lub. To be honest chains don't normally fail that quick. Is it the joining link or one of the running links that has seized up ?

Its seems ok now. I made it quite tight, lubed up with castrol racing lube, and ran it for a bit on the center stand. Then loosened it off to the right tension and everything cool now.

It does tend to live outside and has done a few miles recently. I shall keep an eye on it.
