MarkW Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Hi folksThe front indicators have both stopped working on my wife's ZZR600. Bulbs and fuses are fine, so I'm wondering what else to check. If it was both lights on one side that were affected I'd suspect a loose connection somewhere (I'm guessing there's a circuit for the left and a separate circuit for the right) but as it's both sides at the front I'm scratching my head a bit. Any suggestions much appreciated! Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 locate and check the relay its likely to be behind one of the side panels near the battery or under the fuel tank sounds like it might not be working correctly Quote
Dav3y Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 If the rear indicators are working it could be a common earth or live (depending on wiring) and broken wire/loose connection around the steering yoke.Do you have a wiring diagram and a multimeter ?Not sure what year bike you have but just found this diagram. Looks like the front headlights might share a common earth with the indicators. I take it they work o.k. ?Is this the correct diagram ? MarkW Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Thanks guys. Just checked the headlamp, and this isn't working either. I swapped the EU headlamp unit for a UK one a few days ago, so I'm guessing something went awry in the process. It was working fine after I fitted it though. Does this suggest a particular place to start, or do I have to dismantle the front again and start poking around? Quote
Dav3y Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Well,If that diagram that I posted is correct then :-a) If it did work, the common earth could well have broken away. Explaining both the headlamp and indicators not working.b) Wiring on the connectors could be different if it was a plug in replacement unit.Almost certainly a bad earth I would have thought. If you have a meter, check voltage from either the frame or negative terminal of the battery and any of the wires in the headlight/indicators (if you can access without unplugging). My guess is they will all be floating high (+12v) due to a poor earth. Quote
MarkW Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Cheers buddy - I'll check this out later today. Right now I'm being dragged into town by my wife to watch the indescribably tedious spectacle of some cyclists riding past. Quote
Dav3y Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Haha, they came past here a few years ago on their way out of London. It was nice to see and one of those onece in a lifetime events unless you're a cycling nut.Get that headlight apart Quote
