Guest Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Got my mod 1 tomorrow and although I am fine with stopping and not locking etc I just cannot stop putting my right foot down instead of left!! Last couple of runs out practicing I've managed to stop putting right foot down but will it be a fail if I did out right foot down instead of left or just a minor?Cheers! Quote
OhJay Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Check with your instructor but I'd say you should be left foot down as your right should be using the rear brake. I don't know how serious an error it will be but you're ignoring a brake which would be marked down for stopping power. But locking the rear wheel up is at least a minor if you correct it quick but a fail if you leave it locked too long. Comfortablynumb Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Curious about this too. My instructor was hesitant to give me a straight answer. I have a bad left knee and feel more comfortable supporting the bike on my right leg. Surely there's some leeway? I do use my rear brake but once stopped right foot goes down. Quote
Glorian Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I was trained to squeeze the front brake on and gently apply the rear. pull the bike to a stop and just before it cuts out pull clutch in and then put left food down while keeping the rear covered. Then check mirrors put it into gear and do life savers pull over to the instructor.I don't know if right boot is a fail. But i wouldn't risk it. Quote
fq-craigus Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Way I was taught was always pull up using rear brake so by the time I got to e stop it was natural to put left foot down. Apply front brake gently increasing application, and allow foot to take up freeplay on rear brake and let the weight of your foot/leg do the braking for you as so much weight is transferred to front it don't take much to lock up, most important is preparing to stop too, you know the end result is the bike being stationary so have your left leg off the peg ready, this will naturally allow you to lean the bike allowing the weight to rest to your left allowing you to be using both brakes and putting left foot down Quote
