no idea how to solve your speedo problem as its electronic it could be break in the cable somewhere, could be the sensor altho looks ok has given up but one good thing is it is not part of the mot that the speedo works they just write down current mileage at the time of the test and thats it

You usually have to take the front wheel off to get to the speedo sensor but first of all I'd check the connection behind the speedo unit itself, should be held on by a few bolts. If you're not sure which cable it is just trace it back.

I have traced the cable the whole way up and a seems fine, nearly certain it's something inside the cable that goes down to the wheel, I have the wheel off but can't figure out how to take the sensor apart

Probably can't mate, they're usually a sealed unit if it's electric for obvious reasons. Just wiggle the connection to the speedo unit and unplug it and give it a good spray with some wd40
