Jhncf Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Was riding the CBF125 3 miles to work this morning and in 5th gear at about 50mph it lost power for a second, happened 3 or 4 times, felt like it could be the clutch slipping. Is it easy enough to check and replace the clutch myself? Trying to avoid taking my bikes to garage if possible! Quote
Fozzie Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Depends, clutch slip is where the revs shoot up but you go no where with the clutch out.Explain the loss of power in more detail.Do the revs drop? Does the bike just seem to die at various throttle openings? Explain! Quote
Jhncf Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 It was like a dip in power, like the bike was pulling in 5th then stopped for a second then started pulling again, hope that makes more sense. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 have you checked the chain and made sure that its correctly adjusted and not so loose it jumping teeth on the sprocket Quote
mr_vimto Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 ive had the same problem on my 125, randomly happens at high speed. i checked my chain and it was very loose! was like 5cm chain slack ive tightened my chain earlier today and it dosnt seem to happen any more.was it like sudden drop in power then u would let go off the throttle then pull again for it to carry on normally? Pete Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Could just be a dead spot. My Blackbird has a known dead spot with stock exhausts at around 5,000 revs where it'll go from accelerating well, to levelling off and then at about 5,250 revs it'll pick up quickly again. I just put up with it, or I've got some after market exhausts that I sometimes put on and it goes away again. Is it spluttering at all? Wondering if you might have a leak in your air box manifold or something like that. Check your bike model for known dead spots first though, easy cuz you don't have to get off your arse on Google! Pete Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Not sure with injection bikes but I know with carb bikes you're meant to rebalance the carbs when putting a new exhaust on because it affects this sort of thing. When I've swapped exhausts on my bikes before it's either cured or created dead spots so could be what you're describing. Quote
Lumor_uk Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 air leak or fuel starvation. these have faulty fuel pumps if yours has never been replaced. Quote
