Does anyone own the SJCAM SJ4000 camera?

i bought one today for my helmet, for protection against accidents etc..

proof of evidence sort of thing.

But have issues.. I got a San Disk 8gb Micro SD card, and set it to record for the journey.

but when i finish recording, remove the card and put it in my laptop, i cannot correctly play the video back.

i use VLC player for all my video files, and its fantastic.. but everytime i go to play my recorded video, it says

"AVI index broken or missing"... clicking FIX gets stuck on 3%.. and "play as is", fails to play properly..

the recording is about 35mins long, and it only plays the first 40 seconds before freezing and crashing VLC player..

ive tried DIVFIXX++ software to repair the files index, but that fails to read the file correctly, so wont fix it.

or if i try to convert the files to another file type, EG: MGEG, etc, it only converts the first 40 seconds, and makes the new file just 40 seconds long..

I have ran out of ideas on how to get it working..

ive tried re-recording as i go out for a ride, but it happens all the time..

Quick 10 sec recordings for tests are fine.. but longer recordings for journeys mess up...

anyone had this issue, or know a good way to fix it?

ive tried fixing index, converting file type etc, no fix, ran out of ideas now

What SD card did you buy? (link to exact one would be helpful). There are loads of "fake" ones that are quality control fails that have been tampered with to appear to be higher capacity, some people sell them as "upgraded" some just outright sell them dishonestly. You can download a program called H2testW which can test the card and give you a definitive answer on what it is.

yeah ive tried the data recovery software, no help, as it just recovers the corrupt file, as it wasnt index'd as deleted..

the memory card is a genuine San Disk card, Class 10, which was from carphone warehouse..

I'd try H2testW anyway, it rules it out as an issue.

Sounds likely that it is the memory card rather than the camera. Did you format it before you used it the first time?

Format it again as one last attempt then I'd say maybe pop it back to the shop and get it replaced.

yeah formatted it mate.. as standard FAT32 to start with, just testing, because of course, FAT32 only allows allocation for upto 4gb in capacity.. and then tried it with exFAT, so all the card capacity can be allocated, both with standard 32Kb cluster size..

still no luck..

I have tried an alternative card on it, that was removed from my old mobile phone, which was tested good under a full cluster scan.

So cant be the memory card..

Clearly there is an issue with the camera somewhere... Luckily after explaining all this to the seller, they have been really good, and offered to send me a new one out.. :D

Is it a genuine SJCam?

Cam should be marked up like this

Manual should look like this

http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh504/wr6133/LPIC5220_zpsdrhsz1nq.jpg

Box like this

http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh504/wr6133/LPIC5218_zps2t3vxmf4.jpg

and there should be a scratch off panel on the side of the box that reveals a code to input on the SJcam webshite to see if it's genuine

Final way to check is then update with the latest SJcam firmware.... if it bricks or buttons lose functionality it is a copy.

Just picked up one and selling my gopro to fun another 2. Excellent cameras.

Anyway, it's a card issue - format in camera and try again.
