satansmeerkat Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Evening boys and girls,My box-of-bits Yamaha Virago 535 is playing up again. I took her for a road trip from Southend to Swansea last weekend (550 mile round trip, or there abouts). After dropping off my passenger it started to bog down slightly when I open up the throttle. It has only gotten worse since Sunday and now it will only run on the front cylinder with brief bursts from the rear. My exhaust is popping like an over-jetted two-stroke too. I checked the inlet manifolds and found a leak on the one on the rear cylinder. I've plugged it up with tape and garaged it for now until the new manifolds arrive on the 3/06. I changed the oil and cleaned the spark plugs this morning. Is there anything else worth checking? The carbs are ar*eholes to get in and out because of the airbox design on the '96 XV, so I don't particularly want to rip them out.Tanks in advance Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 i would just wait for new inlet rubbers to arrive they will make a huge difference to the way its running Quote
satansmeerkat Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 Replaced the super-leakey bottom inlets, problem is as bad but exhaust is still popping at high revs and/or high speed I think it's leaking in air somewhere else, but can't find it with the WD. Any hints? Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 is the exhaust all in good condition with no leaks as that can make it pop back as well check around the collector box for the worst areas Quote
