Hello,

I have a 1997 Yamaha Virago XV535. I've owned it for about a year and three months and when I got it the pipes were in a reasonable condition, but they have been deteriorating. It has been very gradual so I didn't really notice it too much until I saw a picture of what they were like when I bought the bike.

As you can see in the below image they are still reasonably shiny. This was when i got the bike.

They've got a lot worse since then, especially the front one.

I've read that it could be the fuel/air mixture being too rich. If it is this what do I need to adjust?

Thanks very much :)

Get some metal polish on that. With a bit of hard graft it should come back to a nice shine.

the pipes do tend to discolour with heat and age its quite normall but as cgd says you can always t ry polishing them again just make sure they are cold when you do it

Metal polish and hard work, that looks normal to me, dont read too much into afr's as its a results of heat and road grime.

As said, metal polish on the pipe wrap a bit of rag totally roumd the pipe and hold an end in each hand then pull one way then the other working up and down and it will come up a treat

Thanks. I will give this a try.

As long as I know it is nothing to worry about, aside from the aesthetics that is :)
