Guest Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 i bought the ajs regal raptor dd50e a few month back from a local shop and has recently been giving me problems. When i took my first ride on it driving it back home it started fine but cut out by a set of lights i pulled over to the side of the road and kicked it over and it started up fine and took me home. the bike ran fine for a few days but then started dying when i pulled in the clutch and wouldn't tick over properly either. I had to keep the throttle twisted slightly to keep it going otherwise the engine would cut out. I checked the spark plug and the mixture was too rich, then went into the carburettor and adjusted the float height and made sure all the jets were clear and unblocked. I also checked if there was any water or dirt by the float but it was clear. i eventually got the right colour on the spark plug and thought my problem would be solved, but it didnt help, it just ran slightly worse. the following morning i rechecked the carburettor to see if there was anything i had missed but it was fine, but then i decided to look at the needle height while i was at it and noticed it was loose and hadn't been properly clipped in so i sorted it out and clipped back in but it didnt solve the problem eitheri bought a K&N air filter, made it run slightly better but didnt stop the engine cutting out while it was ticking over or when coming to a stop checked the tank and fuel tap to see if there were blockages- it was cleari was sure it was fuel starvation because everytime i would start it up the engine would run then cut out and it would take a few minutes to be able to start again I eventually bought the same carburettor (20mm) brand new but it didnt help eitheri next looked at the timing to see if the previous owner had fiddled with it but it didnt look like it had been changed. and while i was at it changed the air filter back the the original. The bike slowly started getting worse after this and would just slow down and stall while i was driving it, until i couldnt even ride it down the street. i replaced the CDI (by this time it would take 20 kicks to start) but it just stalled when i drove up the road slightly. Now after a 2 week holiday i come back home and tried starting it but it wouldnt go i got 1 good kick out of about 10000000 attempts but it cut out straight away.Im gonna check the valves soon but i was wondering what people would think, i dont have money to take it to the garage and i need it to work for college. some advise would be very helpful for me Quote
oldie59 Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 First thought was it's a warranty issue, but you state you have had the bike a few months. Is it still covered? Quote
Guest Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 First thought was it's a warranty issue, but you state you have had the bike a few months. Is it still covered? the dealer at the shop didn't give me any coverage of the bike unfortunately so i doubt he would take the bike back again. I think he also knew that there was an issue with it as he took over a month to finally MOT it. Quote

You are protected under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, which states ' Goods must be as discribed, satifactory quality and fit for purpose.' Fit for purpose means that anything you buy, be it from a bike dealer or a shop selling second hand washing machines must be suitable for their everyday purpose and not breakdown the first time they're used for their intended purpose. The fact that the dealer didn't offer you a waranty means that he knew that the bike was faulty when he sold it to you. You are entitled to either having the bike repaired by him to a reasonable standard, or having your money back. Quote
oldie59 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Don't mention to anybody that you have been trying to fix it yourself though as the dealer could claim that the bike was fine when it left him, and that you have cause all the faults by meddling with it. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 have you thought to check the breather for the fuel tank isnt blocked as that wil cause a vacuum in the tank and stop the fuel getting to the carb Quote
Guest Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Im dont think i can take the bike back as it were my dad that brought it for me and i tried running without the fuel cap onbut earlier today i noticed the mix was a bit rich after changing cdi so i moved the needle up a notch and it seems to be running better but is still cutting out i have the right colour on the plug now after riding it round for 20 mins so this is a good sign Quote
