XmisterIS Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 See here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4-r-nE4VQQEach and every one of those fine machines is completely bonkers and will leave many bikes standing - I'm thinking that a decent sports or supernaked could possibly keep up to about 100mph, then just run out of power. But how long do they last? E.g. what service interval is required to keep them at that level of performance? And how many miles before they require a complete overhaul, or a new engine, etc? Quote
Guest Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Well it wouldn't be seeing a regualr 20k milage service.Based on engines previous service and current vehicle service would work out a schedule to suit. Depends on the application. These individual build cars often require a spanner check as part of a service which isn't included in a main dealer service. A visual inspection of the mountings and any subframes are also a regular requirement as they aren't tested for 100,000s of miles like modern vehicles in many conditions. At least thats based on caterham builds repairs and servicing which are based on 3000 mile intervals about annual milage Quote
XmisterIS Posted October 25, 2016 Author Posted October 25, 2016 That's a good point - you've got to inspect everything non standard very carefully. Also because there's no established standard for the cars, you've got no reliability measures. And I can't see one of those engines lasting more than about 20,0000 miles before the cylinders start wearing out! Still, I would love to have a go in one ... Quote
fq-craigus Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 A car like that which actually gets used for its purpose will need serious surgery very regular. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk Quote
cockercas Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 My mate had a 600bhp drag car.1800cc turbo and it would last about 20 road miles before something went wrong. Quote
GazzyG Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 You see turbod Lambos and crazily tuned GTRs etc all over YouTube and they'll all leave even litre sports bikes like they're standing still. However I can't imagine them being reliable nor can I imagine they'd be at all easy to drive day to day. That's the great thing about bikes though, an R1or similar you could drive everyday to work, getting 50mpg and be reliable as clockwork whilst still giving you enough performance to see off anything bar a top end supercar or one of those crazily tuned monstrosities. All for a fraction of the cost. Quote
