Yamaha YBR125 Starting Problems

Hi everyone

So I'm having some problems with my YBR 125 (2012 model) as you can see from the title when I start it. I find it odd to have issues right now as I just passed my MOT a month and a half ago all fine.

What happens, more and more regularly, the bike won't start first try, I'll hear the ignition going trying to start the bike as I hold it down but the engine won't actually turn over and the check engine light will flash. I then turn the bike off by the key, start begging my bike to work and talking her up to it, I then turn the key back on, hold the ignition and ehy the engine comes alive and I breathe a sigh of relief.

Something else which has been happening recently, which may be related, is that sometimes my right indicator won't come on but with enough flicking and clicking of the switch eventually it works.

Battery problem? Starter motor something? I don't know, any help would be appreciated as I would much rather diagnose and fix the problem myself then shelling out loads of money at a garage.

Thanks very much for any help!

UPDATE: My bike has appeared to fixed itself... I love Yamahas :)

Welcome to the Forum

I'm in the same boat as yourself, I have a YBR125 2011 that also starts when it feels like it, normally not the first attempt, nor second but with a bit of coercion it eventually kicks into life.

What have you checked so far? with mine I have replaced/checked Air Filter plug and done an oil change, checked most of the cabling and am about to swap out the ignition barrel (once I have checked properly for continuity)

Do you have a Haynes manual ? if not get one

After you try starting and it says no, after the initial three quick flashes of the EM light, it will come on again (I'm guessing one long followed by nine short - Error Code 19)

Thanks for the replies

So I didn't know that the check engine light flashed in a particular way to represent and error code, all I thought was it flashed when something was wrong but I'll check what it does next time I try start it and it acts up and post it here.

As for what I've tried isn't too much, I've recently changed the oil but I was thinking about cleaning/replacing my spark plug to see if that would do anything.

However I definitely feel like the indicator problem and the starting problems are linked as they starting happening at the same time so I feel like it could be a battery problem maybe.
