Admin Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 Winner Kyle Wyman led the round 2 KOTB race most of the way, with Tyler O’Hara right behind. (Brian J. Nelson/) The popular MotoAmerica King of the Baggers competition continued serving up its special brand of big-bore entertainment for round 2 of its three-race series this past weekend, and when the smoke cleared, it was Harley-Davidson factory rider Kyle Wyman lofting the first place trophy. In fact, the home team did even better than that; all three steps atop the podium were occupied by racers on Harley-Davidsons. Kyle and Travis Wyman, both H-D factory riders, also both podiumed at Road America. (Harley-Davidson/) Eleven riders started the race, but just eight finished, with three riders having DNFed. Kyle Wyman, piloting the Screamin’ Eagle factory-prepped #33 Road Glide Special, was joined by brother Travis who wrangled his similarly equipped #10 Road Glide Special to second place, making for an ecstatic celebration from the two—an especially sweet victory considering Travis was added to the Screamin’ Eagle factory team only last week. In third place was Vance & Hines Harley rider Hayden Gillim, who took the third position on his #79 Street Glide. Hayden Gillim on the Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson took third place in the second round race. (Brian J. Nelson/) Round 2 of the King of the Baggers series was turning out to be a big deal, as the race would be run at the 4.048-mile Road America track, which essentially sits in Harley’s backyard (near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin). The home track would be the site of the latest salvo in the new edition of the Harley-versus-Indian wars, with The Motor Company looking for a bit of payback after having been dominated by Indian at the last KOTB race. RELATED: MotoAmerica King of the Baggers Racing Lineup Even CEO Jochen Zeitz underscored the race’s importance, saying, “We are ready to turn up the heat at our home track of Road America.…” And it turns out they went for a bonfire, with Harley-Davidson riders finishing one-two-three on the podium, for a full sweep of the round. Last year’s champ and race favorite Tyler O’Hara did not finish the Road America race due to mechanical issues on his Indian Challenger. (Indian Motorcycle/) With the win, Wyman takes a commanding lead in the series race, 16 points ahead of second place Gillim, while last year’s KOTB champ Tyler O’Hara, who also won 2021′s first round, slips to fourth in the standings, just behind fellow Indian rider Frankie Garcia, who took fourth place in this race. Championship points will be tallied at each round and a national champion crowned at season’s end. RELATED: Baggers Get MotoAmerica Race Series As mentioned earlier, H-D is putting up nearly $30,000 in cash for qualified racers competing in the King of the Baggers series to sweeten the pot. The three-round series will wrap up at California’s WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca July 9–11. For more info, check out: motoamericaregistration.com/rider-and-crew-entry/.
