The plan for the Super Hooligan National Championship (SHNC) partnership with Mission Foods is to have fans salivating during the opening of the 2022 MotoAmerica race season.

The Roland Sands Design championship has united with North America’s No. 1 tortilla brand. Mission Foods, based out of Irving, Texas, will soon launch a new race-within-a-race series, the Mission Foods Air-Cooled American V-twin Challenge. Look for the Mexican food company’s logo on various American V-twin machinery at all four rounds of the 2022 Super Hooligan National Championship, a race series which runs in support of the premier MotoAmerica roadracing series.

The Mission Foods Air-Cooled American V-twin Challenge goes into action March 10–12 with a doubleheader at Daytona Motor Speedway. The series returns later at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on April 22–23 for round three and concludes at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca July 8–10.

The basic rules of the new race series are, in short:

  • Open to 750cc and up air-cooled American-made V-twins
  • Stock frames
  • High bars
  • Flat number plates
  • 420 pounds minimum weight

As of this date no riders have been announced for the new challenge class, which will race alongside other cruiser-style 750cc-and-up water-cooled American twins, as well as electric motorcycles with high bars.

This added race-within-a race is expected to deliver some fun for MotoAmerica racers competing on the V-twins, as well as some additional payout. The V-twin Challenge will up the ante to $2,500 in additional payouts per race for its winners, as well as awarding an additional $2,500 to the point leader at the conclusion of the season. The payout will be awarded to the top three finishers on air-cooled American V-twins: $1,250 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for the third-best finisher of each SHNC round. This payout comes in addition to the SHNC race payouts of $2,500 per race.

The official announcement from SHNC says: “The Super Hooligan class features riders and bikes from many disciplines and a broad set of rules meant to bring new riders and brands into roadracing. With the addition of the Mission Air-cooled American V-twin Challenge, we hope to inspire American V-twin riders who normally race at a local level to come out and race with the SHNC at a national level and elevate the visibility of air-cooled American V-twin roadracing.”

Interestingly, SHNC says that a California-based short-track series will begin once the MotoAmerica support series is complete. Details are expected to be announced soon. The intriguing question then becomes whether or not this short-track series will also feature the Mission Foods American V-twin Class; watch this space.
