The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 is a major player in today’s ADV category, and made even more attractive by this year’s major overhaul. Offered in five variations—the road-going Tiger 1200 GT, the GT Pro, and the GT Explorer as well as the off-road-focused Rally Pro and Rally Pro Explorer—the platform has go-anywhere, do-anything capabilities.

The overhaul was extensive, covering the entire motorcycle from the tires’ contact patches up. A new liquid-cooled 12-valve DOHC 1,160cc T-plane triple powers each iteration of the Tiger 1200 and shares basic architecture with the Speed Triple RS and RR models.

We placed our Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro on our in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer ahead of an upcoming comparison test. The Tiger produced a peak 127.43 hp at 8,600 rpm and 83.42 lb.-ft. of torque at 6,840 rpm. A smooth power delivery all the way until its 8,800 redline is complemented by a relatively flat torque curve. Roughly 70 lb.-ft. of torque is available from 3,000 rpm. A small bump in torque comes near 4,000 rpm that is felt in real-world riding, then torque slowly builds until peak delivery and only tapering slightly toward its rev limiter.

Triumph’s smooth inline-triple performance is impressive in any application, and it’s no different with the Tiger 1200. In an age of well-balanced adventure machines, it will be interesting to see where it stacks up against its competitors.
