How Much Power Does the 2023 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR Make?

What’s special about the 2023 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR is that it’s the sportiest, most potent motorcycle that the British marque produces while leaving us with a glimpse of the full-on superbike we wish it’d create. It’s centered around the raw performance of the latest Speed Triple RS, but made more sportbike-like via clip-on handlebars and an aggressive ergonomic triangle, semi-active Öhlins suspension, and a smooth half fairing.

The Speed Triple 1200 RR’s powerplant is identical to that of the naked RS model being a liquid-cooled DOHC 1,160cc inline-triple engine. Interestingly, the engine’s basic architecture is utilized in the Tiger 1200 platform, which we recently dyno tested.

We placed the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR on Cycle World’s in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer, recording horsepower and torque measurements. The RR belted out 150.57 ponies at 10,530 rpm and 82.63 lb.-ft. of torque at 8,510 rpm. As is the case with inline-triple powerplants, the RR has a flat torque curve with roughly 70 lb.-ft. available from 3,500 rpm. Pair that with its notably linear power delivery and you’re rewarded with smooth performance and flexibility in gear selection.

To put things in perspective, the RR’s output is very comparable to the BMW S 1000 R’s 155 hp and 79 lb.-ft. of torque measured on the CW dyno, but lower than the KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo’s 161 hp and 92 lb.-ft. of torque when we last tested it.
