Although it was first trotted out at Moto Guzzi’s open house in Mandello del Lario last September during the company’s World Days event, Guzzi has seen fit to officially showcase its new 2023 V7 Stone Special Edition at EICMA this week. In short, it’s a moody styling riff on the base model of Guzzi’s bestselling V7 lineup. But there’s a bit more to it than just bold new graphics, so let’s dig in a little deeper.

The model brings a host of refinements to the base-model Stone, with a sleeker, refined livery and premium accents as well as a new Arrow exhaust.

Mechanically, the V7 Stone Special Edition is virtually unchanged from the rest of its V7 siblings, packing the same 853cc transverse 90-degree V-twin engine derived from the V85 TT (a big part of the platform’s major face-lift in 2021) stuffed into a tube steel frame and hooked up to a six-speed transmission with a shaft drive. The upright riding position and modern-yet-classic styling all remain untouched on the Stone Special Edition, but in this iteration everything feels just a tad more refined.

To be sure, a lot of that’s due to new cosmetics. For instance, on the Special Edition, Guzzi forgoes the dusty matte color schemes usually found on the standard Stone models, instead giving it a more vibrant Shining Black gloss paint accented with horizontal stripes on the 5-gallon tank. Sharp red V7 badging on the side covers also mark this as a special model, as does the lovely red stitching on the saddle. The bigger exclamation points, though, are probably the can’t-miss red-painted shock springs, which refer back to sporting Guzzis from years gone by.

The Stone Special Edition package also includes bar-end mirrors to give it a more dynamic profile and a fuel cap done up in black anodized aluminum. Meanwhile, the 850 twin engine’s heads also get a new graphite color treatment, with the throttle body guards treated in black anodized aluminum to match. Tying it all together is a plate on the handlebar riser identifying the bike’s special-edition status.

There is in fact a minor mechanical upgrade; the V7 Stone Special Edition is equipped with a new Arrow exhaust system that helps the engine pump out 66.5 hp while also giving it a flatter torque curve. The new performance numbers are nominally better, but they are improved: Claimed peak horsepower figure, for example, rises 1.5 hp (up from 65) at 6,700 rpm, while max torque goes from 53.8 lb.-ft. to 55.3 lb.-ft. at 4,900 rpm on the Special Edition. Guzzi also says that this particular Arrow system will be available as an accessory for all V7 models going forward.

Like other Moto Guzzi V7 Stone models, the Special Edition comes with full LED optics, including the front headlight with DRL in the outline of the Guzzi eagle, while the LCD circular instrument panel is in keeping with the bike’s sleek, contemporary style.

For 2023, the new V7 Stone Special Edition will come in this one color scheme, with Guzzi tentatively stating US MSRP at $9,999.

To add a bit of confusion, Guzzi also briefly mentioned its upcoming 2023 V7 Special models in passing, saying the bikes will have new color options for the new model year but will remain otherwise unchanged. The two new colors for 2023 will be black and white/black/red (shown), both with spoked wheels, chrome grab rail, and “850″ graphics on the tank. No other details on the V7 Specials were available at press time.
