For 2024 KTM has reintroduced the 390 Duke to the European markets as an all-new model. Receiving many of the same updates the RC 390 saw in 2022, the 2024 KTM 390 Duke has a new engine, chassis, electronics, and styling.

Sticking to KTM’s “Ready To Race” philosophy, the 2024 390 Duke boasts sharp new styling with two color options: Signature Electronic Orange and Atlantic Blue. A new metal fuel tank, plastics, graphics, and LED lighting add to its race-ready look.

The most current iteration of the LC4c powerplant features an all-new 399cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine with a bore and stroke of 89mm x 64mm. An optimized cylinder head and gearbox with an optional quickshifter add to the Duke’s performance for a claimed 44.3 hp and 28.8 lb.-ft. of torque while meeting Euro 5.2 emission standards.

An adjustable 43mm WP Apex open-cartridge fork provides five clicks of compression and rebound damping. The rear utilizes an off-center WP Apex separate piston shock with rebound and preload adjustments. KTM fitted the 390 Duke with an off-center shock to create space for a larger airbox while also reducing the seat height over the previous generation. In standard trim, the 2024 KTM 390 Duke has a 32.3-inch (820mm) seat height but can be reduced to 31.5 inches (800mm) by removing the seat spacer.

The 2024 KTM 390 Duke gets an all-new two-piece frame. The main frame is a steel trellis construction while the subframe is made from pressure die-cast aluminum. Relocating the shock to an off-center design warranted a new swingarm. The cast aluminum swingarm contours to curve around the direct-mounted WP Apex shock. Reducing the footprint of the swingarm also generated additional space for a new exhaust muffler. KTM also designed new triple clamps with a revised offset.

At the center of the all-new electronics suite is a 5-inch TFT color display with selectable ride modes, adjustable traction control, adjustable cornering ABS, and smartphone connectivity that allows the pilot to interact with their device without pulling over. Riders can now listen to music, take incoming calls, or receive directions while traveling down the road. All features and settings can be accessed via a new four-way switch cube on the left side of the handlebar.

The 2024 KTM 390 Duke has three selectable ride modes, Street, Rain, and Track. Street mode is the default setting when starting the bike. Rain mode is for wet conditions, and Track mode is for a trip to the local circuit. In Track mode, the TFT dash displays a larger rpm tachometer, current gear-position, rider-aid settings, a lap timer, and reduces the size of the speedometer reading. And for those lining up on race day, the 390 Duke features launch control which will hold the engine at 7,000 rpm with the throttle fully open allowing the rider to concentrate on dumping the clutch.

Getting stopped for turn 1 or in a hurry for city traffic lights is important, so for 2024, KTM upgraded the braking system. The 2024 KTM 390 Duke receives a new four-piston radial-mounted caliper with a 320mm disc up front and a new twin-piston caliper with a 240mm disc in the back. Cornering ABS and Supermoto ABS are standard equipment on the 2024 KTM 390 Duke. When activated, Supermoto ABS allows the rider to lock up the rear wheel for skids and limits the ABS intrusion on the front wheel to enable stoppies—two things needed for a hooligan to participate in gymkhana. But when the conditions are precarious due to weather, the rider can dial up the ABS intervention and keep the tires in line.

Per the official KTM press release, “2024 KTM Duke models will be available in selected markets from September 2023 onward. Timing and availability not included for North America.” A source tells us we can expect to receive more information on the arrival of the 2024 KTM 390 Duke to North America in November of 2023.
