SteelOwen Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) Hello everyone, I have become very stuck on what could be causing this issue on my bike now and was hoping for some epxert insight from people who might know what they are actually doing! The story so far; I came into possession of a Honda CG125 shortly after doing my cbt so i could ride around and get some practice on it. First run out all was good for 10-20mins until it started misfiring and lost most of its power, it then conked out completely with fuel leaking from the bottom of the carburetor. I then removed the carb cleaned it all out and replaced the float in the bowl just in case. I then went out on it again and had the same power loss issue as before with it losing power and what i belieive is misfiring, so i put this down to the ignition system potentially not being 100%. I then replaced the coil and condensor with a brand new one and the bike seemed to sound better and run better. However after being out on it for a while all seemed well until i pulled away from a standstill, couple meters later i got no power from the throttle at all and the engine died. checked the spark and nothing, which to me makes sense with me giving it some throttle and nothing happening and then dieing. So the new contact breaker i ordered finally arrived a couple of days later as that was the final part of the ignition system that i had not swapped out yet and is what generates my 6v at the ignition coil when turing over the kickstart and engine(correct me if im wrong here). I swapped these for the new ones then set my points gap when the "T" (top dead centre) was on the datum line. this was setting using feeler gauges between 0.3-0.4mm as recomended in the manual. However i still have no spark at all on my plug. Even checked the coil and condensor seperatley by dabbing 6v on the wired that would normally be connected to the fly wheel generator and i get a healthy spark on my plug so i can rule that out as being faulty. I think it has to be to do with the points and the flywheel and all that but i have no idea where to go from here other than taking it to a mechanic but I really just want to try and sort this out myself. Thanks to anyone for their help i will attach some photos, i put some insulating tape around the white wire attached to the contact breaker as it was exposed a bit and the final position i left it in was as close to the back as possible so i would not catch on the flywheel at all. I am also a little confuse as to the conncection because the screw holding this inplace with insulating washers is surely connected through the thread and screw so why bother with the washers? seems like its just directly connected to earth? unless im an idiot and missing something here. Its also a little confusing as the white wire actually becomes a black wire after the black insulating tape and black heat shield. Not sure if this is standard or at somepoint someone as fudged an extra wire on? I would have thought it should just be black all the way through until it changes to a black/white going to the ignition coil and condensor but god knows.
