Simon Davey Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Seen this tiny bird roosting in a hole made by a woodpecker. Can anyone ID it? Photo's by torch light on separate nights. Hand in picture for scale. 1 Quote

veracocha Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 It's a good time to see them. The insects will concentrate on the sunny side of the tree trunk when temperatures drop so that's where these beautiful birds will be found. Quote

That tree (what's left of it) faces the afternoon and evening sun, which is probably why the woodpecker has spent so much time on it. Zoom in, you'll see. 3 Quote
Simon Davey Posted November 16, 2024 Author Posted November 16, 2024 (edited) If anyone is still watching, I took these years ago, when I had a large 500mm f/4 lens, and they were still heavily cropped. Treecreepers at the Rickmansworth Aquadrome, used to love going there. Carrying the lens and camera combo used to really hurt my back, so I sold it. Still regret selling that lens, oh the emotional pain...... Taken with an EOS 1D mk3 that I bought second hand, but had to return because it just didn't focus. Probably why I could afford it in the first place... Edited November 16, 2024 by Simon Davey 7 Quote
