Josh_2000 Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Hello, I am a 16 year old rider with a 50cc Yamasaki Ym50 Re 2023 model. It is a chinese bike. Recently, my piston rings went bad, as they do on these cheap bikes, and my friend had an engine laying around from a yamasaki ym50 2017 model. My current model at the time used electronic fuel injection and an ECU. I wanted to remove the ECU because it was restricting my bikes speed and rpms and it would cost around £200 to get it derestricted. My friend gave me the engine for free as he had no use for it and i got to work putting it in my bike. Anyway, I got the engine in quite easily and then began wiring everything to my new CDI which would't restrict my bikes performance, I also had a carburettor now so the EFI was gone. I wired everything up to the CDI following countless wiring diagrams and it was theoretically very simple work. It is a 5 pin CDI so it has a killswitch pin, a trigger pin from the stator, an AC power output from the stator, a ground pin, and a ignition coil pin. I am about 99% sure i wired everything exactly as it should be and when i went to start the bike, no spark. I checked the fuses but they were all fine. I flipped the killswitch to the on position meaning the killswitch was preventing the bike from starting but to my surprise the bike started. I am also completely sure i hadnt mixed up the wires from the killswitch so i have no idea why it was working backwards now. It ran for about 30 minutes while i let the bike warm up to adjust the carburettor when out of curiosity to test all the components i shut the bike off via the killswitch. The bike shut off, and didnt turn back on. Once again, no spark. There was no voltage whatsoever at the ignition coil 12V input no matter which way the killswitch was flipped. There was then continuity between all of the pins on the cdi which told me it had internally blown up. I purchased another cdi and plugged it in but still no spark and this one also blew up. I have spent about a week watching videos, reading forums and reading wiring diagrams. Everytime i read a diagram i can perfectly picture each and every wire from the diagram on my bike and i know for a fact each wire is correctly wired. I have also tested each pin on the cdi connector and i get 50V from the stator output, 1.5V from the trigger, i get continuity between the killswitch pin and ground until i flip it and continuity stops. I have tested the ground at the connector and from each ground point to the battery. Only issue is, no voltage in the ignition coil. I dont want to keep buying new cdis and blowing them up so can anybody please help me. Quote
