GS500E, 1999, Electrics and Wiring questions.

For the GS500E. I got it 6 months ago, Scruffier than Gaspode the Dog butran well. I had a problem with the indicators, they only worked on ignition switch or VERY LOW REV's! I was okay with it, hand signals used. Now the M.O.Y. is out so needed to fix them.

Somebody that understands Electrickery had a look and gave me Much Teeth Sucking!

A previous owner had been "Doing strange things" with the wiring! There is a lot that needs doing and as I have.. 1/. Zero BRANES regarding electrics, and 2/. Bugger all money to play with, I reckon it's going to be the bike to "Arse around with" for a few months. 

One of the things I'd like to do is a Vague custom set up, removing lots of non-essential bits Etc. I'd like to Slim down and simplify the electrics. 

Ideally I'd like No Battery, other than for starting the engine, it has no kick start on it.. Is this practical? If it is, can anybody advise me what I need to do this, in terms of parts, and can anybody give me ideas on where to look for guidelines to doing it?
