Burnt through battery wire

I have just notice the black and yellow battery wire has been burnt , and the whole wire is exposed, this must of happened when i came off the the bike.

I need to know the best way to deal with this. can i attach a new wire to the old wire? if so hows the best way to do this?

or can i just recover the wire with insulation tape

you might get away with heatshrink, its a poly tube that you slide over the wire, heat with a hairdryer and it shrinks to form a tight cover, as with most of your wiring loom.

unsure how it has burnt/melted in an accident?
