Clutch problem

Have noticed over the last few days that my clutch needed adjusting as there was a lot of slack at the lever. After adjusting it was OK for a few days then needed it again which seemed odd.

Tonight I had no adjustment left and still had slack at lever. Then gradually I seemed to lose clutch so that eventually even with the lever all the way in the engine was still engaged, which makes stopping tricky and waiting at lights hazardous! Got round it by stalling, selecting neutral, loads of revs and drop it into gear (managed an accidental wheelie as a result which got a strange look from a biker going the other way :P )

Not sure if it makes a difference but its an Aprilia RS125.

Any ideas?

try winding the lever adjuster in, and adjusting at the other end of the cable, then use the lever end for small adjustments, remember to leave a little play

if this doesn't work, dig out your haynes, as your gonna need a new set of clutch plates..

I had assumed (maybe wrongly) that if the clutch plates were worn to excess, that you would lose drive, as in a car, 'cos the clutch would slip?

And I didn't realise you could adjust at both ends, so maybe a quick read of Haynes is in order :P

Its in lots of bits now. Needs a pressure plate, a new adjustment screw and a thrust washer.

The drain plug had half a scrapyard attached to it :P

if thats the case, i would flush the engine prior to refilling with fresh oil.. otherwise you'll have metal flakes swimming in your oil...
