Guest Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Hi I went to look at a Honda CB125 last night as i thought it would be a good first bike for me, however it would not start! I said that if you could get it to start i would have it. I don't know alot about bikes but the battery was flat and they were trying to start it from 12v car battery i did ask if that was ok to do that and they said it would be fine! They couldn't get it to start but i still really like the bike and they didn't want much for it? Should i keep away from the bike is it bad news! Ta Quote
Pete Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Sounds like a strange one to me. Personally I'd walk away, there're plenty of other bikes out there (that start!). Starting off a car battery is OK, but only as long as the car isn't running, because it can surge the electrics on the bike.If they're asking for £200 for it then it's a different story, but if the asking price is the same as others that definately do work then just forget about it. Guest Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Thanks for your reply and adviceI said i would give them £300 if it would start, i could maybe get it for less as it won't start! But as i don't know a great deal about bikes or what is wrong with it i don't know what to do???? Quote
Guest Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 i also think that the CB125 is 6v so would starting it from a 12v battery cause a problem??? Quote
Guest Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 (edited) i also think that the CB125 is 6v so would starting it from a 12v battery cause a problem???I've had my car jumped by a 24v battery, when i was stuck at the port.. no-one would help except the port officials, everyopne else thought it was hilarious i'd broken down (Brand New Beemer at the time...) but don't think they did the CB125 as a 6V, even in 1983.. my gp100 and katana (1982) were both 12V, think the 6V was for 50cc and phased out quite soon..yep changed to 12v in 1982http://www.whitedogbikes.com/hondabatteries.htm Edited May 22, 2009 by Anonymous Quote
Guest Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 ok then if it is 12v then it shouldn't be a problem, i just thought it was 6v!We did try to bump start it and we got a bit of smoke from the exhausts but it just wouldn't pick up! Can you still jump a bike if the battery is completey dead??? specially a 26 year old bike!!! Quote

Pete Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 HmmmmmmmIf you don't know much about bikes then this could be a great project to get your hands dirty on. You could do allsorts like stripping the carbs (or carb if it only has one), taking bits off, putting bits on, learning about bikes! £300 isn't bad if you can get it going. Knock them down a bit, even if they say they can't go much lower, keep pushing for less Of course if you're not up for getting your hands dirty and taking bits apart then I wouldn't bother. To get it going again, if you don't know what's up with it you could pay a mechanic lots to sort it. Much better to do it yourself as it'd be free Quote
Guest Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I am liking the idea of that, learning about bikes getting my hands dirty! but with it not starting i don't even know what to check what to look for??and it's a twin! (that's about all i know) lol Quote
