Guest Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 My XJ600N has a problem when been ridden for 10 miles or so, the revs don't come down quick enough. Can anyone shed light on the most likely causes? I am an ex-scooterist and not familiar with these highly complex 4-strokers !!!!! Thanks. Quote
Guest Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 The throttle cable has occured to me and I'll check it, but I'm confused as to why revs are fine and dandy until engine has reached normal operating temperature! Quote

Thanks.some bikes have 2 throttle cables. one to open the throttle, the other to close it!take a look at the inner side of the throttle grip. if you see 2 cables coming from the bottom, then i'd say thats your problem. easy to replace. if you only have a single cable, then i'd suggest the carb sliders may be sticking but that's not really very common. Guest Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 yes I do have 2 throttle cABLES, is it easy to remove them for inspection? The twist feels smoothe enough, but worth a look. I have just notiuced the vacuum line which goes from carb 1 to intake manifold is leaking when I open the choke and the engine is off. Obviously I need to replace it, but could that cause the problems with revs not coming down fast enough?thanks Quote
critch1977 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 hi boogathe leaking vacuum pipe can cause irratic revs.also has rosszx9r said check cables are greased and not snagging also carb slider are clean, free from catching.have you had your carbs cleaned or balanced lately has this can cause a few problems.erm has i only live in rotherham if it`s still acting up and if i`m not working this weekend i could pop over and help if needed i don`t mind helping a fellow biker. Guest Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 hiya critch, thanks for the info, i'll check throttle cable tomorrow. vacuum pipe isnt leaking petrol (as no petrol goes down it!) it must have been wd40 dripping onto it!! Might still have air leak, how do i test for an air leak? Carbs haven't recently been cleaned or re-set, though CMC did put new rocker cover gasket on last week. The problem has emerged since then! so likely something they have done! im free at weekend, will let you know later how ive progressed. cheers Quote
