  1. The way i see it that there can't be many of these bikes left now, most have probably been crashed or scraped by abusive teenagers ( most of us have been one haha) and the 125 motor puts out 28 bhp so its plenty fast enough for the missus to get to grips with
  2. No, i plan to kep the 125 motor as the misses said she is going to ride it and do her test
  3. I probably could only the hole in the fame is threaded to so would also need that re-threaded and for the price i paid for the second hand frame i did not think it was worth spending the money on it bud
  4. Well the first update is about the fame It turned out that the frame has been hacked by someone trying to remove the swingarm pivot bolt and they butchered it and had then filled it after with some type of metal filler so that put a stop to the project. I have managed to buy a new (second hand) frame now so after christmas i shall carry on the slow re-build Heres some pictures of the old butchered frame Before i removed the filler http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140501_213446_zpsbe340a2e.jpg After i removed it http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/P1010072_zps0671ff23.jpg
  5. yep, definitely a crack, not sure how its been done, wonder if the last owner ran it on water not coolant and its froze in the winter and done it?
  6. Ah i see, thanks for the info, Mine is a 1989 model
  7. Cheers guys, and thanks for the info, somebody else also said the 28mm was the one for mine so i will try and run it with that one and see how it goes
  8. Well project number 3 has arrived but its going to be a slow build as how you see it is how i collected it Its an aprilia af1 (i think lol) but as you can see its in boxes so this should be fun Was told its all there but how many times have we heard that one eh lol. I will slowly get it built back up as time goes on, but i also have a new garage to build (i've just got planning passed) as well as a few other jobs getting it the way. This was how i got it in the car, i wonder how many bits are missing http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140308_142431_zpsf405c0b0.jpg Here it is on the floor. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140308_145301_zps4767b1fc.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140308_145346_zpsc72f881f.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/bike_zps2f693111.jpg So i've been through the parts to try and see whats here or not. The sub frames and engine support dont look to bad, just need a clean and a paint. The plastics and seats look ok and should come up well with a clean. Wiring looms there, dont know if its the right one but will soon find out. Clocks need a glass putting in the speedo bit but the rest are ok, just hope they still work. I have found 2 carbs, not sure what one if any is the right one, one has the slider in, the other has no float bowl or slider A few pics of the parts i have so far. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/P1000755_zps7a761280.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/P1000754_zps3fbf6806.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/P1000750_zps246a55f1.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/P1000747_zps4220994f.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/P1000743_zps9a24c45f.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/P1000738_zps113b6a90.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/P1000736_zps91767af4.jpg The bike has come with plenty of spares not sure how many i will need up to now but i have a spare swing arm and a few other handy bits, I also cleaned the wheels to take a look at them as i was told they had been powder coated but looking at them im not impressed, unless they were just prepped badly, they look ok if you don't inspect them to close. I've also started rubbing down the rear subframe ready for its respray http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140410_111911_zpsadcc9799.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140418_170859_zps6b6272bd.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140418_170910_zpsa3fc968a.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140420_143003_zps1e9fb902.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140420_143025_zps69ae57d1.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140420_143044_zps19bf554e.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140420_142946_zpsf31fc8c5.jpg I did find a problem with the water jacket so i had a go at brazing it, im quite pleased with the outcome, it needs a little more cleaning off but i think it should do the trick, if not then i will get a new barrel, the only reason i have tried this repair is because the bore and piston are in very good shape, they look new http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140403_113135_zps01518c59.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140522_115828_zps0e9281ac.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/Aprilia%20af1/20140522_123538_zpsf65040e3.jpg As i say, its going to be a slow build but as i do things i shall update it .
  9. Try the firmware update, i did it to mine and it worked ok Ive also modified it to take an external mic http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/camera/P1010052_zps4025ac70.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/camera/P1010053_zps4836ba88.jpg
  10. Cheers mate, i will give it a try
  11. What did you do to yours please mate, i'm trying to reduce the wind noise on mine .
  12. Its come and its fixed on ready for a test run
  13. Ive just bought myself one of these cams, any of you guys still using one ?
  14. Hi. do you still recommend this intercom bud as i'm looking for one
  15. Honda CBR 600 F-K 1989 Model I wanted one of these bikes years ago, a mate of mine had the 400 aero as his first big bike. Alas i never did get one as i could not afford one.......but guess what, now i'm older and i bought one on the cheap That was almost 2 years ago and i'm glad to say i'm still happy with it. This bike handles well, and this model (89 onwards) had the slightly different cam timing, higher compression and bigger carbs so makes around 95bhp and can mix it with more modern stuff still. 0-60mph time of 3.5secs and on to a top speed of 140mph. The lad i bought it from says he has had it reading over 140 on the speedo but ive never tried and dont intend to, i'm at that age were once i hit 100mph then thats fast enough The riding position is not as extreme as modern sports bikes and the pegs are quite low so its not cramped, the riding position is probably classed as a sports tourer nowadays, but in saying that taller riders might find it feels small as the seat height is also quite low. One down side is the brakes, they work and they will stop you but they dont have as much feel as moden stuff but you can still lift the rear wheel under heavy abuse. The back brake, will what can i say, its there and i use it but it takes a bit to get used to its feels like its got blocks of wood not brake pads but this could be just mine and i will be upgrading the hoses and pads in it soon. The engines seem quite bulletproof with only the cam chain tensioner or the fuel pump needing attention , mine shows just over 41 thousand and still pulls strong with no smoke or rattles. The tyres by modern sports bikes are small. On mine it has a 110/80/17 on the front and a 140/80/17 on the rear and i use all the rubber available although i the sales brochure says it should have a 130 rear. If you wanted one of these bike years ago and still fancy one then buy one before the prices start rising as it turns into a classic bike. sales
  16. If this is a real vid then he was a lucky bugger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17ig4WziQzM .
  17. Thanks Ken. There is a more in detail post thread about it on the cbr forum, located here http://www.bikersoracle.com/cbr600/forum/showthread.php?t=20110
  18. Sorry mate, bit late to reply now as ive only just seen this post This is how it looks today, i still have the er, great little bike. i use it for the commute or if i fancy a nice relaxing ride as its so easy to ride but if you ring its neck you can get a shift on http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/ER500/20140811_140513_zps3515d68d.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/ER500/20140811_140044_zps517b2e33.jpg
  19. I normally use this bike as my commuter bike but if i'm taking the daughter for a ride or just want an easy ride out then i use the er5 as its so easy to ride. I went for a little ride on it today, the weather was nice if a little windy but i still enjoyed it and it was nice to get out for a ride rather than a commute http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/ER500/20140811_140513_zps3515d68d.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p161/suzuki998/ER500/20140811_140044_zps517b2e33.jpg
  20. Worth watching to the end ">
  21. Ive had bikes for many years, had allsorts 2 and 4 strokes. I was given an er5 for free from a friend or a friend as it was in a very sorry state, looked like it had been stored in salt water. My plan was to get it running and sell it on and replace it with something else only once i did i enjoyed the bike and still have it now, that was 3 years ago. A very useable bike, pulls from low revs, handles quite well but likes good known tyres, avoid budget ones. Its not a rocket ship bike (50bhp) but it was never sold as one, but in saying that if you're new to bikes, don't regularly go over 100mph or just want a bike to travel to work on then the er ticks the boxes. Its very easy to ride, i can see why riding schools used them now, i have done things on this i would never try on my other current bike (honda cbr). I even drove this bike through a local ford , it was very slippery and i fell off nearing the end, i picked the bike up and only damage was the ball of the clutch lever but i went back through the ford but this time i drove on the river bed haha. Ive put a topbox on mine and i use it for work, but i must say a lot of the time i enjoy the er more than my cbr as its more enjoyable pushing the er to its limits and using all the revs/power available than it is riding the cbr but not using its full potential. So in summary The Good Very easy to ride Does around 60 mpg Excellent engine braking Good reliable engine Fun to ride as long as you don't expect to chase your mates on sports bikes. Plenty of spares available. Cheap to purchase Cheap tyres as they are the size of most modern 125 bikes. The Bad Petrol tap fails (its a vacuum tap) normall flooding the carbs and the engine breather is directly under the carbs so you end up with fuel in the oil, but there is an easy modification to fix this, check the er5 forum http://www.bikersoracle.com/er5/forum/index.php Carb floats sometimes need adjustment, i've had to do mine 4 times in 3 years Front brake on A1 models has plastic inserts in the front brake caliper pistons, remove and throw these away, Slightly better on newer models but the front brake is not the best Drum rear that suffer from going oval. Newer models have a fuel gauge but thats about as accurate as a flag blowing in the wind. Overall this bike has served me well and even with its little flaws.
  22. Bet he wished he had kept his cool and not tried this stunt now. ">
  23. just being in the right place at the right time i guess bud, i was not looking for either bike when i found them I know were there is a cbr 600 like mine for sale but that one is up for £600. I've not seen it but from what i under stand its a runner and has mot but needs an overhaul. I also know were there is a major project, its a kawasaki gpx 600, its been parked up for about 12 years, maybe more but its spend around the last 5 outside, i'm not sure how much or if its even for sale as i've not asked
  24. Nice rebuild thread bud, i will enjoy reading and watching this one
  25. Yes at least its an easy fix mate, and i have plenty of time to find a new one now its passed
