  1. Oh it has storage under the seat but I bought my helmet before I got it and at the time it hadn't even occurred to me that there would be such a size difference between helmets so mine doesn't fit. And yeah I am thinking of just using my pushbike chain and lock for the helmet and just attaching it to the luggage rack / handles. It wasn't so much the lock I was concerned about as how secure it was going to be if I left it. This being england after all I had heard some stories of kit being tampered with and was wondering if this was a common thing or not. So far its been pretty unknown as far as I can tell, the stories I found on google seemt o be the extremes.
  2. Cheers. Maybe I should look at a bigger box. My 'bike' is actually a 125 scooter and I don't want it to look stupid with a huge top box. I think I'm gonna just get a cable lock and attach it to the passenger handles. I wasn't bothered about leaving it at all but I did a quick google search and found a load of stories about people getting helmets pissed on and stuff like that. I must have just got the extreme cases. Im loving having a flip front helmet but I think in future im gonna get a full face so I can store it on the bike.
  3. Hi guys. I have a flip front helmet that is too big to go into my box. I normally carry this into work but with the weather looking a tad better I am using my wheels to get out to more places and am going to need some way to secure my helmet. I have seen some types of special locks for helmets and jackets which look ok. I get that these are more like deterrents than preventative measures as a pair of pliers would render most of them pointless but I was wondering how many of you use helmet locks or something similar? Also have any of you had your stuff stolen / tampered with? I am not intending on leaving my jacket on the bike or anything, just the helmet. I have considered getting a bigger box but to be honest the one on it is pretty big already I just had the bad luck to buy a fat ass helmet before I got the bike, if I got any bigger box it would be a bit of an issue filtering and so on (or it feels that way for me at any rate). Cheers
  4. I'm currently running a 125 scooter on a CBT but am looking for a DAS course so I can get a bike with more power as Im a bit sick of getting bullied on the road, I also think I would benefit from some proper training. There are a few schools in the area but was wondering if anyone on here could recommend any particular ones. Also wondering what kind of price range do you think I will be looking at as I contacted one of them and was estimated something in the lines of 650 - 850 but as I have no basis for comparison I cant really decide if this is good or bad, I will contact a few others tonight.
  5. Hey guys. Just got back on the road after losing my temper waiting for this snow were apparently gonna get. This morning I ran into riding straight towards the sun in the cold so when I flipped my sun visor down I got a face full of mist. My helmet is this http://www.frank-thomas.co.uk/index.php ... t-gun.html I treat my visor with some anti mist spray which works well but I have no idea how or if I even can remove my internal sun visor. Has anyone had any experience with this brand as I kind of want to ask before I go pushing and pulling things I may not want to. Cheers
  6. Ah don't think there will be any for mine, its a pretty new brand as far as I know. Though I think I will look into the sprays or something then. Cheers
  7. Potential newbie question but.... I just got some anti fog visor inserts and they didn't fit my visor. I have a Frank Thomas Modular helmet http://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/helmets/ ... t-gun.html I followed their video on youtube but try as I may I could not get the insert to just fit the inside, it did not want to fit to the curvature of my visor. This has lead me to wanting to buy a fog proof visor which has in turn lead me to ask a question about visor types. Are there specific types of visor fittings? I assumed until now that that they where universal but ten minutes of google proved otherwise. So is there something I can look for to check if any visor I buy will fit my Frank Thomas helmet? Cheers.
  8. Wow this thread took off. Lots of advice to take in. Much appreciated. I wouldn't have questioned my cornering and just chalked going wide up to experience and learned from it but the way the cars where right up my backside made me second guess myself. I will stick with what I'm comfortable with and get some more practice in. Im gonna get a 125 bike soon I think and get some practice in before I do my full test. Cheers.
  9. Lol, thanks. I went wide on some corners and shat myself at how close I was to the oncoming traffic. Just figured I would ask. I will just have to practice when its quiet. Ta
  10. The other day I was on some country roads and went wide on some of the corners. I did my research and have been practicing countersteer but have a few questions. The first questions is : When all the videos on youtube say push down on the bars to steer does this mean push them so they are turning the opposite direction to the one you want to go? I have seen the videos where people are using as little as one finger and the bike is responding smooth and quickly. When on my scooter I feel like I have to put quite a bit of force down on the bars to get them to turn. I was thinking perhaps on a scoot due to the change in riding position it could be more like pushing forwards than down? I have played with this on the roads but not extensively, I figured I would ask before I start playing too much. The second question is regarding cornering speed : On the country roads I was on the speed limit is 40. I was going 40 on the straights and slowing down to around 20 on the corners, some of which are pretty tight. Is slowing down to 20 normal for a scooter? I have heard that unless there are chevrons on the corner I should be able to go round them at the speed limit but with my current skill I definitely could not do that yet. Cheers Ben
  11. I was just looking at some new mirrors. I will see how I get on and maybe then get some if need be. I altered my mirror positions yesterday and found it to be a load better. I live on a hill and think that I probably had them set wrong when I set out. I altered them so I could just see the end of the top box behind me and it worked a treat, gave me a lot more visibility.
  12. Cheers guys. I think your right it is more a confidence thing. I'm also worried about whether or not I will get a space before the junction and stuff too. I actually think I need to just stop worrying about other drivers all together and just focus on doing my jobs right. Im always second guessing whether I'm going fast enough or braking too fast and stuff. I think I worry what other drivers think if you get me. I went to work for the first time on it today, the dual carriageway was awesome and scary but loads of fun. And im still alive at work typing this so there's a plus.
  13. Hi guys. As a new rider I am having a bit of a mental block that is getting in the way of my gaining road confidence. It has to do with lane changes and possibly overtaking (though on a 125 more the fore than the latter). The issue I have seems to be in judging the correct distance / space needed in the next lane before you can move over as well as judging the speed of the upcoming vehicles and also issues with trusting whether or not they have seen my signals. There is also too a fear of not being able to find a space to move over before I reach my junction. At the moment for me it is very much a case of check mirrors / blind spot. Signal Check mirrors / blind spot Grit my teeth pray to god they saw my signals and then move over. I was wondering if some of the more experienced riders had any tips or advice regarding this as this is the only thing stopping me using my scoot for my commute at the moment. I really want to get this under my belt as my commute goes down some hella busy dual carriageways and requires a lot of lane changing, when its quiet there is no bother but in rush hour its enough to make my boys go back into my stomach. Cheers (Sorry if there is another post about this, i did a search but got loads of filtering results)
