hi all My latest issue with my flat tracked 1976 Yamaha xs 650 is a now leaking fibreglass tank ! ( due to ethanol mix in modern fuel ?) . So... What is the best way forward in choosing getting a new one ? (It leaks at the lug hole fixing to the seat end , I don't imagine a repair is neither feasible or practical ? ) I feel that I need to offer up a tank to the bike first to see how it looks ...right ? As opposed to ...ordering online Then not being happy and returning paying postage ...? Surely not sir . Then there is ..new in steel £400 ...eBay £10 old , dented requiring refurbing etc and repainting and a lot less for sure ...best way forward I think in practical and monetary terms. Am I right in saying that most tanks sit to the frame by way of the tank seating on the lug/bungs on frame with its elephant ears on the tank ( as what mine doesn't).

Cafe racer ? I'm thinking of the r nine T which caught my eye at my local biker meet venue thought it looked way cool and you are able to customise it to your liking

I was only reading up on it the other day as I am suited to a light and nimble bike myself you should read the telegraph review as I find them quite good in that they compare other models like the Ducati and triumph . I take it that you are a bmw fan ? What is it that you like about them as the funny thing is I have been taking notice of them recently having seen their new Cafe racer styled model and been impressed with the styling and basically knowing that the brand itself says reliability and build quality

hi all and sundry ..... As you can see I am in need of a ( non standard ) front mudguard I have been searching online and the best I have come up with are a couple of guards via Harley customs UK can anyone offer up other options for a wider choice etc.

Aha ! Indeed There's a week at least beckoning me on think I'd fancies that on a nice cruise machine ...... Shit ! That's a tourer needed ....now a cruiser .....mm quite like them triumphs

Thanks for the input guys .....what I NEED to do now is shell out for a sodding tourer !! I can't go far on my xs 650 flattracker because ..... ! It vibrates too much ! I only get 70 miles odd from a fill up No front mud guard ( left hand becomes self styled visor wiper ) Seat to thin and not comfy enough even for my skinny arse ! And .... Daytime Mot !

i love going to local biker meet places that so far have not been too far out of my way for a comfortable day out .however I have been thinking of taking a few days out sometime in the near future and was wondering what popular venues are out there in our green and pleasant land that I could plan a route to even maybe meet some forum members .though I know that I would find some via the 100 challenge but I'm being lazy ! Is there a top ten possibly.

The moment I fell in love

It's from some woman Labour MP, can't remember her name, when she was talking about getting into politics. I just thought it was a brilliant quotation. its a bit like the well known ' the only fear is fear itself ' the fact that anything that makes us fearful becomes a challenge to us and when you take up that challenge meet it an succeed it's so rewarding so I say challenge yourself as often as you can and life becomes much more fun hahah ...should there be a philosophical page on here ....? -

Yamaha xs650 1976 front forks
Craig 8150 posted a topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
hi people My 'flattracker' XS650 Yamaha has original forks and they feel too soft considering I have hagon rear shocks . It dives a bit to much I think so I understand I can adjust the pre load setting would that be enough or would I need a heavier oil as well (10 weight in it at the moment ) in order to match up to the hagon rears ( they are a stiff shock themselves but adjusted to what is comfortable with a good riding performance ) Old enough to know better young enough to still do it ! -
