Thanks, I hadn't looked at boots on Urban Rider. There's some good options in there, bit more expensive of course! Advice seems to be that more coverage of the calf is important, and support in the ankle as well as protection. In that case, why do trainer style boots even exist?

More gear questions from me. I'm new to motorcycling, I don't have a bike yet but intend to do DAS in the next few months. I expect to be riding for short leisure journeys only - to the park, round to my friends, out to a restaurant in the evening with my wife as pillion, and maybe a day trip here and there. I want to be protected, obviously, but don't want to sit in power ranger gear while sipping a Starbucks. I'm looking for gear which can work as casual clothes in terms of style and comfort, but also offer a good level of protection. It's just a question of how you compromise for comfort and style.

Was at J&S in Finedon yesterday looking at getting myself kitted out - only just done CBT, planning DAS in the coming months. Gloves was the only thing that I didn't come away understanding much about, and having an idea of what I wanted. I expect to be riding in a leisurely way mostly. Days out just to practise, maybe a weekend trip away. Bike is likely to be a retro or retro styled, comfortable ride rather than anything sporty. My eye is on the Triumph Street Twin, for example. I would like something that can handle a little bit of rain, just in case. Something that keeps the wind out but doesn't get too hot. Something not too bulky so that I can feel what I'm doing. Probably the same desires as everybody! What's a good first glove, that won't break the bank and gives decent features.

I've got a strip of gravel down the side of the house which is just wide enough to park my VW Transport van on - 1.8metres. So, that's plenty wide enough, just that I'd rather it wasn't the full width because it'll look funny. Is it easy to push the bike in and out without being able to get along side it? I guess you fold the stand down first.

That's interesting, I hadn't thought of that. I could build a wooden shelter easily enough against the wall of my house. I'd interested to know how easy it would be to push a bike backwards into a narrow hut, or should I put the doors on the side?

If I do that, my bike will be very visible and accessible to passers by. Should I be worried? I guess it's not much different to parking it up in a public car park, except you can use a ground anchor.

Hey I'm new here, and not even a bike owner yet. Just did my CBT last week, looking at DAS soon. One thing I need to work out is how to store a bike. My garage is full of junk, but blocked by 2 cars anyway so I'd have the hassle of moving them to get a bike out. I've got a bit of space down the side of my house which would fit a metal shed, and I could put a CCTV camera in place to cover it. I wondered if anybody had recommendations and advice on these? What size? Side door, or front door? Security considerations etc. Bike wise, my current lust is a Triumph Street Twin. So nothing mega long, wide or high. Cheers in advance Rich
