  1. Well, just as the title says, Should a Suzuki GSX600F be able to start on sidestand? I was under the impression that it should start on the side stand, but cut the engine when put into gear. Mine won't start when the side stand is down, and cuts the engine if it is running and the stand is lowered. I only have a later model owners manual, that states that it will start with stand down etc, but I am not sure if this applies to my earlier (1989) model? Just asking as it is quite had to put onto centre stand to warm engine
  2. Found out what the problem was I held the bike up with an engine crane, put the centrestand down - still made the noise - investigated further to find that the stand was very close, but not quite touching the exhaust. Let the crane down, and the noise stopped again - the stand was now touching the exhaust! (if you listen to the video, the squeek must have been the stand scraping the exhaust!!) One of the exhaust downpipes was not quite sealing against the head, thereby causing a single cylinder exhaust 'pop' When the bike was fully up on centrestand, and taking the full weight of the bike, it just touched the exhaust enough to seal the downpipe!! Problem solved Thanks for everyone help.
  3. I think I might know what it is! need to do some investigation first - I'll keep you posted ...
  4. I'm gonna try and have look today, try and get the bike high enough so that I can operate the stand fully. Trouble is I got a bad thumb, see - http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17551 Think I'll try the kerb trick, thanks for the idea -DTM-
  5. trysitting on bike and holding the centre stand down with your foot or someone else doing that so it is not in contact with the engne/frame/exhaust Baffles in the exhaust are not loose ? i know it sounds unlikely all i am thinking ofo things that can cause a rattle ..... good luck with it The noise is there until the bike is fully on the centre stand. I have posted the sound on YouTube, have a listen - [youtubeuk]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=m7vZGTo9pVw[/youtubeuk]
  6. Not that I can see, have had a look with a torch, and there seems to be nothing like that.
  7. Hey, thanks your input, I guess I forgot to mention that it happens when idling, and stationary
  8. Not the chain, can hear the noise when stationary, wheel static.
  9. Hi I wonder if anyone can help. I have just bought my first bike, a Suzuki GSX600F 1989. It rides all ok, appears to be no problem with anything. There's just this funny noise, that I can only describe as a knocking from the engine area, I am quite mechanically minded, and have stripped and rebuilt many a car engine, from 4 cyl up to yank V8's - but this is my first 'go' at a motorbike!! The noise sounds a bit like a big-end rattle, but higher than I would have thought (but then, I am used to car engines!) - The weird thing is, it makes the noise when I am sat on the bike, or when on side stand (with cut-out immobilised), but as soon as I put it on the centre stand it goes completely I have checked, and adjusted the valve clearances, checked for anything loose, but found nothing. Also, the oil light goes out immediately the starter is turning, so I would not think oil pressure was a problem. It does seem to be an engine noise, but I can't figure how it stops on Centre stand? Any ideas? this is driving me crazy
  10. I took my CBT about 6 weeks ago, at the age of 48 (now 49!!) Gotta say I really enjoyed it. Done all the usual stuff, pushing bike around, u turn, emergency stop etc. The intructer then said 'do you fancy a go on a bigger bike?' - Er yeah!! So back to the storage room, out rolls a Kawasaki 500 - ' have a go on that' he says Up and down I go, doing a few turns, and stops, felt easier than the 125!! Then he says, time to do some road riding, 'on this?' I ask 'If you are are happy to' he replies So, took my CBT (and passed) on a 500 - brilliant!! - and passed my 'big' bike test this week - woohoo!!
