Ok - had a quick look at this before work this morning following a tip from the ZZR forum i frequent too. Where the cable attaches to the bottom of the clutch release shaft was sitting very far forward (given that it should be pulled forward when the lever is pulled in), a very quick inspection suggests that the release shaft might be stuck as the pivoting part that the cable attaches to is moving but the shaft is staying put. Bearing in mind this was a quick 2 min inspection whilst avoiding getting dirty before work. Any tips on releasing the release shaft? Might i be looking at replacing the springs or the whole clutch?

I dont think its stuck anywhere - there is another sheath over the existing cable running up through the headstock area etc and it moves around ok. The clutch was working for the short ride i took it on last week (just round the area of lock ups but first gear only)

The cable is hanging like that mate - haynes manual i have .....i think i've been staring at it too long it doesn't seem to be making any sense!

Its less slack at the lever - wind it out? What about at the bottom i.e at the clutch itself?

Ok, having a bit of a thicko moment with this just now; i just cant seem to get this cable adjusted to anything like the way it should be. I'll double check the spark plugs but they're new and were working fine. The tank was off and drained for the last few weeks, the tap has a prime button so i primed it after i popped some fuel in the tank...... I'll get another look on monday

Regular viewers of this space might have seen my ZZR undergoing a wee bit of work: http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/view ... =5&t=28025 This was meant to be the weekend when "it" all came together, bodywork, exhausts, accessory circuit etc. I must admit to suffering from a bit of hubris though as the bloody thing wont start now. It was running fine a few weeks back as i'd bought and refurbished a set of new (from a scrappy) carbs, new battery and new plugs. All the cables have been lubed (GT-85) and the ends greased. I put the battery back in today with some fuel and nowt. Starter is turning over but nada - its almost like there's no spark but its got 4 new ones in it. I'm wondering if its something electrical that i've fecked up rewiing my heated grips and accessory circuit. Rant over - fed up!

What rating of cable would be sufficient to run from the positive terminal of my accessory socket to the battery - 8amp? or something a bit beefier? Cheers!

I'm in the market for a T4 myself for future family holidays with the (3) kids, there is a VW T4 forum that is particularly worthwhile for getting the gen/ideas/inspiration

Just a wee quick update on the rebuild; still painting at a rate of about 2 coats a night which is about all the time i can spare just now. I wish now that i'd masked the whole bike and not just one side (i'd be finished now ), although to be fair i ran out of stuff to finish the masking and i couldn't be ar**d going and getting more (garage is at the top of my street). I will be doing the swingarm the same colour Daz mate, but for the sake of getting the bike on the road i'll get one from a scrappy and take my time painting it over the summer and fit it next winter (assuming i keep it that long!). Just discovered that there was only 1 seal per pot in the rear caliper instead of 2....and they are full of shite! Currently soaking all the parts.......
