  1. Nice, it's about 4 hours from here. Only ridden it once so far, can't wait to get back though, great track. Double header in early September that's looking tempting! Prepare wallet for a beating, worth every penny though IMO
  2. I think #1 is what we have now so would go with that. Agree with cruz if you don't take the piss and are fairly observant then you can make good progress. Unfortunately I think we need 70 limits in this country, there are just too many cretins on the road. Most around here can barely negotiate a roundabout so letting people like that on autobahn style roads would be asking for trouble.
  3. Furniture polish is apparently good for it. Mine have started squeeking too lately, must get around to trying that out. It's also supposed to be good for keeping water off the visor.
  4. Yea that was crazy, don't know how he kept on it after that
  5. I used to do that, nice bit of fishtailing. Trick is in blipping the throttle as you change down, takes a bit of practice but well worth it. Will stop the back locking up but still give you nice engine braking.
  6. I tend to approach in 1st gear, bike is a bit unsettled at low revs in 2nd plus being in 1st means I have power to pull away if traffic starts moving. Also get nice engine braking ('tis a 600). I wouldn't coast up to the junction with clutch held as the bike is more stable with drive on the back wheel, the same applies to the car but you're not balancing on it at the time so get away with it
  7. This site looks pretty handy for finding new routes
  8. Use dark one, unfortunately Caberg helmets don't fit me. Have used it early in the morning while still dark & it was fine. Don't ride much at night, would probably take clear visor with tinted pinlock.
  9. I've got narrow feet too and ended up with Sidi, fitted nicely. Then trashed them doing some inadvertent offroading, the shop I brought them at posted them back to Sidi who repaired them for free including re-stitching the slider mounts, impressed.
  10. Is it on council TV or Sky only?
  11. Doesn't that get a bit cold? Only wear mine on track, hood jeans & textiles rest of the time.
  12. I got some leather soap, mostly for horse riders gear, makes the leather kit look like new. You'd definitely notice it on the white bits. It's not really necessary though. Ran my non biking leather jacket through it and it made it look brand new again.
  13. Got some nice looking kit there fella, bit of extra motivation to help through the direct access eh!
  14. As well as keeping you warm it keeps alien transmissions at bay.
  15. I waited about 6 weeks after DAS then went on first one. I wouldn't say I was a particularly skilled or confident rider, but I don't think another 6 months road riding would have made any difference. Day on track helped hugely though. If you can ride on the road then you can ride on a track in novice group IMO. Avoid open-pitlane days but any with a novice group will be ok. Great book that someone (maybe you phil) recommended was trackdays for virgins, well worth picking up.
  16. Being a new rider the fully comp quotes were quite large, around £300 more than third party. That saving alone covers most damage that's likely to happen, plus the hassle of dealing with insurers to make a claim and delays put me off. If I had a more expensive bike then I'd consider fully comp. I do ride for fun rather than necessity though so can use the car if bike is off the road, car only costs about £20 more for fully comp.
  17. Bit late but you can get screen wash that works better in low temperatures. I've seen stuff that supposedly won't freeze at -15. Don't have it in mine so take a bottle of water and squeeze it out the window.

    socket set

Plus if that's your bike in your avatar think about buying a set of Torx sockets too as they may well be used in a few places, the calipers are held together with them on my CBR. I've got quite a few tools but pretty much any job I try to do involves at least one trip down town to get the vital one I'm missing!

    Chain noise

Check you've not left a massive dildo under the seat, if you did then it might need a new battery. Did you measure the chain just in one place or in several? I was told it can vary and is supposed to be adjusted based on the loosest point, otherwise you can end up with it correct at the point you measured but too tight in other places.
  20. Those Predator ones look like the ankle might be a bit more reinforced, handy protection if you have a lowside. Probably not as waterproof as the Thunder ones though. Well worth paying for quality footwear, I had a "moment" and took full force of bike going at a fair whack on the foot, which pretty much destroyed my boot but it did it's job and saved me a broken foot or worse so worth every penny. Was Sidi so not cheap but they repaired them for free which was nice.
  21. Is the aim of those days to learn road riding in safe conditions or learn track riding skills? Had a browse around the IAM site but it's not very clear to me
  22. Gutted Phil, hope the injuries aren't anything a few cervezas won't sort out. Looks great though, sun, clear skies. Am still jealous, would rather be trackside with a camera than stuck in the UK in the freezing cold.
  23. Sounds like a blast, prepare your wallet to take a bashing! Instruction depends on the organiser, Hottrax & Nolimits both say on their websites that they charge for instruction but it was free on the days I've been. The hottrax guy spent about an hour with me on track sorting lines & off track nattering about stuff, was really helpful. For the sake of £25 I'd have happily paid and think it's well worth it, you could have a chat before and see what they can help you with.
  24. I'd want to try them on first, well worth going into a shop and try a few different makes on, you'll see how much variation there is in fit between makes. They may be cheap but if you have to buy another set because the fit is horrible then it's not saving much!
