Okay today i tried the following: I tried the filler cap open just because it was easy and worth a shot I cleaned the plugs with a wire brush Turned the oil filter the other way round, checked all the bolts in there were good and refitted it... Batterys on charge again now and I'm waiting for a mechanically minded friend to come round tomorrow and give me a hand. I think we're trying the timing chain and a 2nd opinion on all the stuff I've checked through Would take it to a garage but theres no garage for 50+ miles. Debating towing it out and calling the AA... ha

leme know if you notice much difference please?

I dont think theres really much point in paying huge amounts for a spark plug. That doesn't mean I'm right, I could be totally wrong. I think you'd be better off spending the extra on a nice after market air filter and just get some standard ngk plugs I also would like to be corrected though, if this makes a big difference I'm up for getting me some iridium sparks

Hope the plugs do sort it. Hate not having transport! Will add these to my lists of things to try. I have been fiddling a lot with the electrics... I fitted some new indicators etc. Somebody suggested my oil filter wasn't in right? Could this cause it not to start?

i personally wouldn't bother with lessons for mod 1. Its easy. I just watched youtube and read up on it. Then practiced myself. all you do is wheel your bike from one box to another, do an emergency stop, stop controlled in a box, do a u turn, do a swerve (which is quite fun)... Thats it. But i would do lessons for mod 2

Failed my CBT but.......

Hey, I'm 21 and was able to go for either DA or restricted. I went for restricted for 2 reasons: 1. It worked out cheaper 2. I have points on my licence and I know with a 1000cc monster i'd lose my licence quicker than the bike. I have a cb350sg which is 33bhp stock and is completely fine for me. I've had it up to around 105mph... And it accelerates very well. I think I'll possibly get a gixxer thou eventually... But tbh, I'm happy with the power I have at the moment and don't think I'll upgrade until it conks out on me. In fact, I used to just ride a 125 when I passed my test, until it blew up on me. -
I'd buy it with this idea in mind It costs me like £15 for somebody to change my tyres round here so... you can easily undercut

nice, hope you get it sorted asap. Sucks having a bike off the road

I did a compression test with my thumb the other day to check it, it blew my thumb right off. so thats all good. Yeah the plugs were wet Loosened the drainage bolt on the carbs just now and they were flowing well, caught all the fuel from them in a glass and it looked really clean, so put that back in the tank. Not tried starting with the petrol cap off, i'll give that a shot tomorrow morning. thanks for the idea mate

hmmm.... it could just be a dudd battery. Maybe it's time to replace. If the batterys relatively new, then I suggest you check your alternator next. Get yourself a multimeter, only about £15? something like that. Connect it up to your battery terminals whilst theyr'e still in the bike, it should read about 12 volts. Now turn your engine on, the voltage should now read about 14 - 15 volts. Flick your lights onto high beam etc. and check the multimeter again, might drop slightly but shouldnt drop much. If you're getting really poor reading maybe it's time to replace your alternator
-
If it were my bike, i'd take the switch housing off of the handlebars. Have a look at the cables, maybe quirt some isopropyl alcohol cleaner over all the terminals and give them a wipe with some tissue. Maybe also get yourself some dielectrics grease and rub it over all the electrical terminals too. Once you've done all that... Follow the cable ensuring theres no sharp kinks in it. Check everything along the line to the starter motor, maybe your starter relay or starter even perhaps?

I have a similar problem on my gt550. Slight loss of power at 5kRPM. A friend of mine diagnosed it as worn valves. My 550 also made an odd rattling at 5krpm though, does your bike rattle at 6k?

For fucks sakes. Seriously...If you want money, get a job. Earn what you own. Scum of the earth. So sorry to hear that mate. it happened to my brother too, his 2011 cbf125 got stolen outside his work. Also happened to my stepdad... 1100 virago was stolen, police were useless in both cases. But my stepdad managed to find his bike in someones garden. So keep your chin up, and go through some rough neighbourhoods in your local area, it's worth a shot sometimes. Hope you find it or your local police are better than northamptons.

Thats amazing man... Seriously revamped that thing! I also love the screen. If you could find it on ebay and link me? Really want it... Does it cut down on wind hitting your chest?

What model was it? 1996 Honda CA125 or more commonly known as the honda rebel. When did you buy it and how much did it cost? 2006 for £800 Good points? 1. Extremely reliable 2. I loved it's looks. Chrome and black, really nice scheme. Got some comments too when out and about 3. Nippy through towns. 4. Insanely good handling for a cruiser. Was really light and nimble around bends, could corner faster than pretty much any car I've met on the twisty A roads of Scotland. 5. Cheap to run... im tempted to go back to a 125 just because of how cheap they are for commutes. 6. So easy to repair, the engine is so openly accessible 7. Parts are so easy to obtain, the 250 version is very popular in the USA, most parts fit the 125 as it's a 250 frame. 8. Great learner bike for anybody considering a cruiser for a cheap price. Bad points? 1. Although this is also a good point... Chrome. It has a habit of rusting over and going nasty. Needs lots of TLC. 2. Not the best position for the taller person. I found I got back ache after long journeys, constantly slightly kinked back, Im 6ft. 3. it's mpg is ok... But it's not as good as some 125's. 4. It's not as fast as some other 125's. Might of just been mine though, maybe low compression due to it's millage etc. Would you get another? I personally wouldn't, not due to the bike. It's a great ride. Definitely a perfect bike for a cruiser enthusiast. But I'm more into sports bikes. Any other comments? To sum it up, if you're into cruiser bikes, you don't mind a bit of polishing on lazy Sundays and you want a shiny cruiser then you can't go far wrong. I think the honda shadow 125 is nicer, but this bike is cheaper and certainly adequate for any learner motorcyclist. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e264/Mikeamd1990/DSC_0042.jpg

I've never had a fuel injected bike so can't help if that's the case. it can cause more wear on the clutch, but 500 over wont have made a huge amount of wear... What I would do first. I would establish if it was a carburettor or a fuel injection. Have a look over the bike, is there a choke, it should be clearly labled if there is. It's usually on the handlebars of hondas. Left side. Now check if theres a petcock too... If you find both you have a carb. Now, to fix the problem. 1. Remove the right side fairing. Usually a few bolts, check your manual, it should tell you this. 2. Locate the idle screw. It was on the right hand side of my old honda 125. [edit] It often has a little spring on it 3. Start the bike, let it warm up to it's normal operating temperature. Setting the idle when it's cold will mean when the engine warms it will idle too high again. 4. the screw will be quite sensetive, you only need to turn it about a quarter of a turn at a time. Each quarter turn, have a friend, or take a look yourself at the tachometer. When you achieve around 1.5kRPM, that you done. Put it all back together and your good to go.

Sounds like a good idea to me. What i did... I had a cruiser. I removed the rear sear which was bolted to the rear mudguard. Was seperate to the main seat. I then got two aluminium bits of metal. bent them to make an L shape. Driled a hole on the verticalbit and one on the horizontal bit. Screwed the seat back on with the screw going through the horizontal bits like washers.. then screwed a stiff L plate to the vertical bits... Really hard to explain... heres a pic of my old bike I did usually have the rear seat on. But I was making a back rest out of it at that time haha http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e264/Mikeamd1990/DSC_0042.jpg

Nah, I've never checked the plugs prior to the bike suddenly not running. So I'm guessing its been building up over time. Shall do, hoping they come quickly. Will let you guys know what happenes

Hey guys. I'm slightly baffled. Well, completely. My bike started on the button, every time. It's an old bike. 1986 Honda CB350SG. I'm off on a long journey soon and so I decided I'll replace the oil and filter. I've had a problem with a leak from the sump bolt, but as a result have ALWAYS checked the oil level and it's always been fine. However, I have fixed the leak now with some rubber washers. (Until I have the pan retapped or w/e). Having completed the oil change, I topped up the oil to the manuals specifications and let it settle, checked the dip stick, ran the engine for about 10minutes... Then the bike cut out and hasn't started since. Things I've tried in no particular order: Charged the battery Removed the carburettor, checked for dirt, sticking components, worn diaphragms. Removed the air filter, cleaned it out including the metal mesh separating the carbs from the filter. Did find some fuel residue which did seem a little dirty. but wiped it clean. Removed the spark plugs, checked for any fouling. I think they were a little dark. Quite black which suggests carbon build up? So running rich? I also noticed a pretty weak spark. I tried bump starting it off a local farmers quad. It tried to turn over. the exhaust was going as in it was actualy running but it wasn't running by itself. Soon as I brought in the clutch to give it some revs it didn't it was just dead again. My opinion is plugs and have ordered 2 new ones. Any ideas? I'm starting to try stupid desperate... pointless things now.. Thanks in advance!
