120 round trip to get MOT, ER6F needed new battery which was bought and in place. 10 miles away from MOT station, needles drop to zero on both speedo and rev counter plus all lights disappear from dash. Great....., check battery and all connections are spot on so looks like alternator... 3 hours later get the bike picked up by Green Flag and we both turn up at the garage - Embarrassing !! Bike still at garage to have checked over as missed my slot for MOT. Me and bike are no longer friends.....!!!

Cheers for advice all. Basically my thought process was to be super safe and get a full service done to ensure the bike was perfect after sitting in the garage for a few months. The bike was cleaned and has been covered in garage for last 3 months. Haynes manual appears the way to go

Howdo all, This is my second year in the biking world which I have totally loved One thing that concerns me is the servicing of my bike after the winter is over - The ER6F has been sitting in the garage for a while now, so I want to be confident when I get back on it everything works as it should. I have been quoted £278 + VAT for full service (Bike done total of 7k miles) - Is this a reasonable price? Cheers

Just a quick post to ask if any folk fancy getting together to start rideouts to see the glorious sights of Scotland. I passed my Mod 2 test earlier this year BTW so I am not a Valentino Rossi or anywhere near at this early stage of my biking life. Cheers guys + gals

Hi Em, From my own experience I would say the ER6f is ideal for someone has just passed their test. It has a 650 engine which is plenty faster (Classified as a sports tourer bike) and is easy to ride with good brakes. I may be biased, however I think the bike looks the business and comes at a reasonable price. I have ridden my brothers GSXR 750 on many occasions over the last few months and I actually prefer my bike!! (I think my brother does too as he keeps buggin me to borrow mine). Downsides are the petrol tank aint the biggest and the mirror are total crap - I had to get extensions. That said, there are plenty of great 600/650s out there which I haven’t ridden so perhaps others will give you a good steer with their recommendations too. Cheers!!

Having passed my test earlier this year and purchased a Kawasaki 650 ER6F (2008) to play with, I thought I would give a brief update on how the first 6 months have gone. 1st Month - Picked up bike from Perth and rode like a total pussy in the pouring rain down to Glasgow. Riding through piddles on a motorway was not the way I wanted my first riding experience on my new bike to be. 2nd Month - Starting to get confident albeit the weather is total garbage, therefore riding time is kept to a minimum. Begin to go on ride outs with pals, really enjoying the experience and the banter. 3rd Month - Confidence building, can easily keep up with ride out mates. 4th month to now - Totally love my bike, love the freedom, love creating the bond with other bikers. The highlight being attending BSB at knockhill and met loads of folk and didn’t meet anyone who wasn’t a "top man/girl". I have a sporty car, however I now always take the bike option - There is just no contest.

Bought my first biggish bike earlier this year, can anyone advise on how freqently I should oil my Kawasaki 650 ER6F(2008) chain? I am concerned this poxy weather is simply killing my bike despite having two covers over it!! Can anyone also recommend a anti rust spray too?? Lovin this summer, its a belter!!

Bought new helmet - What a difference. The old helmet clearly was the wrong size and was trying to pull my head off over 60 mph. Thanks for all the tips/advice.

Me and my brother took the bikes out for a quick rideout over to Loch Lomond as the weather was fine last night. The ride was was better by passing a group of 20+ female riders (Pretty sure they were all female) going the other way led by a lassie in a pink helmet! It was great to see, and by the way, everyone one the waved/nodded (Per previous nodding topic) - Thats the way it should be. If you were one of these females - Made my night, you all looked great!! Loving my new ER6F(KAW) however totalling taken aback by the amount of buffetting you take when riding on the motorway. An tips on reducing this buffeting - Could it be helmet related as it feels as though on occassion my helmet is going to be pulled off my head!! My helmet too big ? (Ahem...apologies for this poorly worded chosen question) Note, I am not doing any crazy speeds, proabaly about 80 tops. Any advice welcome. Cheers

Hi pal, It is tough at Sheildhall as there are many roundabouts, schools, unmarked junctions on this test route(s) - I failed my first Md 2 at Sheildhall, however managed to pass second time round. I just drove around the general test routes etc to familiarise myself with layouts, speedlimits etc etc On the second attempt I just said to myself, keep it to the basics - Ensure obeyed all signs, kept to speed limit and ensured life savers etc done. The rest should take care of itself. I also think there are 2 excellent examiners at Sheildhall in Davy (I think thats his name...smaller guy with glasses) and Sam, both whom are gentlemen and are genuine in wanting you to pass if you ride well - There was another guy there who had no personality whatsoever, funnily enough he was the one I had on my Mod 2 fail with.....Any Examiners, if any read this, take Davy and Sams lead, a bit of personality shows your human and may help (it did me) the person being tested to ride to the full potential as they will be a bit more relaxed. Good luck on your next attempt, you will pass, its just a bummer on the cost side. Cheers

I am shortly about to sit my MOD 2 test at the end of Feb 2012 in Glasgow. Having been pretty confident of passing, I have become slightly concerned by sites which advise the the Shieldhall Test Centre in Glasgow has the worst percentage pass rate in Scotland!!! - Apprently 30 odd percent... In order to prep, perhaps someone could advise on the following - Any idea what the test route is? Does the examiner use bike or car? Any other tips to pass Mod 2? Any help greatly appreciated as I have saved up for a couple of years for a "big bike" and Im crying out to spend it. Plus my mates are risind down for MOTO GP in June so I need to pass....!! Cheers
