Guest Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Hi, hope this might be right place.I'm back in the loop now. Just passed my A2 today - I'll post something in the appropriate area about it later.Anyway I have a 500cc bike that needs to be taken off SORN, MOT'd, Restricted and Insured!!Is one 'legally' allowed to ride it to a service place to get the stuff done, or do you think I have to have it trailer-ed in. The reason I ask, is that when I imported it from USA, I was allowed to ride it to VOSA for its appointed test there. (I was riding on my US license then)thanks anyone/everyone Quote
Guest Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Safest bet is trailered in, or get someone else to ride it in for you. Murphys Law says you'd get pulled, and they'd have you for riding unlicensed, uninsured etc. Like I say, that is safest bet, to my mind, but someone with more knowledge of the law may be along shortly... bigsisterbiker Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 far as i know, you can't legally ride it on the road without the usual - mot, insurance and tax - but the coppers can be ok if they're having a good day and you can prove you're taking it to mot etc. so long as you're insured.if you're worried, trailer would be best bet. no guarantee that any copper you came across would be in a good mood! Bill_on_a_bike Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 My regular mechanic (NOT a dealer) picked the bike up for £10 when I was in the same situation. Seemed safest as technically you can't ride it atall. It is the equivilant of you driving a car on a bike licence. Quote
Guest Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 if the bike is insured and booked in for an MOT you're fine, have done this myself, but you can only travel to a pre-booked MOT not off on a jolly.. once you have the MOT and insurance, you can get the tax,EDIT as it needs restricting, doubtful you could ride it in on a restricted licence.. Guest Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 yea, well its was worth asking I think. Hubby has full m/b license but not on my bike. Trouble is over here they charge you to change the insurance policy. so if we get it insured as it is (46hp) and then have the policy changed to show its restricted (33hp), they will probably want to charge for the privilege of entering the details! You know what? although I put it straight on SORN, its only 15 days past road disc expiration. this is my problem, always looking to save pennies where I can. Quote
Guest Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Never mind not having tax or mot.. you dont have a license to ride the bike (with it being unrestricted and you having a restricted licence... so.... trailer it there Quote
Guest philgale Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 update your profile with your location, someone may be able to offer some help getting it to an MOT station Quote

Insurance don't worry about restriction though, they will still charge you the same.. i believe.. Quote
