Anthony Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4979/58022836.jpgi decided to clean the sprocket cover and ended up taking apart (by accident) the mechanism that engages the clutch via the cable, not sure what it is called, i have put it back to normal as far as i can tell however the clutch now doesnt engage at all, i cant work it, so with this in mind i obv didnt put it back together properly and now i am going to take it to a garage so they can sort it out, now to the question, behind the black cover is a screw nut thing with a locking nut, it serves to push a pin into the gearbox???? where can i get one, it got damaged when my screwdriver slipped i have found this site but cant see the part http://www.bikebandit.com/suzuki-motorc ... 96/o/m6141, can anyone point it out????thanks Quote
Stu Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 try here http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Mod ... oup/CLUTCHnumber 18 is the full unit 19 and 20 is the adjuster nut and lock nut Quote
Stu Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 the reason your clutch now doesnt work will be because you have moved something out of adjustment and it will need adjusting back as per the manual Quote
Anthony Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 WOW thankyou, the bearings have had it in the lil unit thing so might replace it Quote
Anthony Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 and i have used the manual and it just dont work, i think its the mechanical part that fell apart, i either didnt put it back together properly or its not in the right place to work i spent four hours trying to mend it Quote
Stu Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 how do you know the bearings have had it ?i have first hand experience with these had them in bits too many times and getting those bearings back in are a twat!!! the sometimes feel loose but they are usually fine the first thing that goes is the cage holding the bearings Quote
Anthony Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 one of the bearings was 3x smaller then the others and it was obv worn out or at least i think, i'll see what the garage sasy, and i'll get hold of that screw and nut Quote
Stu Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 if the bearings where worn forget the screw and nut and buy a full unit best way IMO they arent cheap though think i paid about £26 quid!!! and dont take it apart!!!! Quote
Anthony Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 tbh i was curious as it twisted, then cos i took the unit apart and didnt pay attention to how it came apart roughly how long does it take to fit, fix and get the clutch working, roughly speaking so i know what i should be expecting to pay???? Quote
Stu Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 30 mins - an hour tops i can do mine in about 20 mins but i had that much trouble with it at one point i could do it with my eyes closed yours is the same system as mine too Quote
Anthony Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 i take it you got the haynes manual, if so, i have looking exactly like the SCREW ASSY CL RELEAS in the manual but it doesnt operate the clutch properly, should it be twisted right back into the holding thing or should it be untwisted a little, plus if you know how it works from pulling the lever to the disengaged engine it would help (in brief where needed, am technical minded tho ) then i might be able to work it out too cheers mate Quote
Stu Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 my manual isnt for your bike so could be different!! you have to adjust the arm to a certain angle from a certain point that point could be anywhere on yours!!! once the arm is set to the right positiont you undu the nut and screw the screw in/out until it is just touching the push rod then hold the screw whilst you tighten the lock nut up i would wait around for walneyfrankie he may know as he used to have a bandit Quote
Anthony Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 thanks, well my manual doesnt say anything bout angle etc, maybe it doent really want you to take it apart lol Quote
Stu Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 oh bugger just re read your post ima little tired you can get them to twist right back so the sit right in but when you connect the cable and adjust it up properly all will be well Quote
Anthony Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 so it should sit right back butted up to the holder, then it should twist out slightly when connected to the cable?? Quote
Guest Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Module/Main/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/2/Make/Suzuki/YearID/37/Year/1996/ModelID/6233/Model/GSF600S_BANDIT/GroupID/253933/Group/CLUTCHnumber 18, is this the whole kit, screw, nut, spring and funny looking thing, or is it just the nut and funny thing?? copied from another post on same topic.. Colin the Bear Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 When ordering parts, have a conversation with the supplier. Tell them what you need and they will endeavour to supply your needs. If you ask for a funny looking thing, you may not get what you want. Try to learn the name of the parts. If you can't find the name ask what it's called. Things are generally called what they do. Quote
Guest Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 first, you need a manual, you've attempted several jobs, and had problems..the bandit and the GSX have similar components, engine being one of them, here is my manual..http://cid-9e0ddcb0b813d946.skydrive.li ... 13D946!207the parts are a kit, but isn't Ron ayres, USA..? I use CMSnl.. below.. part no> 2320031300 SCREW ASSY, CLUTCH RELEASE approx £30 from UK dealer..http://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gsf600-1996 ... FIG18.htmlsecond, does the bracket move as it should, remove the rubber grommet (round plug), and operate the lever, does the other end move? it can be altered here, and by lifting the rubber boot on the cable, have a look at chapter 2 in the manual, and then re-0read, then get the tools out.. buying a new one may fix the problem, or may just be a waste of money, especially if you have put the thing in upside down.. Stu Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 the parts are a kit, but isn't Ron ayres, USA..? I use CMSnl.. below.. part no> 2320031300 SCREW ASSY, CLUTCH RELEASE approx £30 from UK dealer.. yes but part numbers are the same i use them to get part numbers walk in to my stealers and say i want this part number please and its always right always wrong when they find things for me Quote
Anthony Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009 First off, im ordering the part from a UK dealer for 40pounds, only place i found, second i have a manual, and as posted before it doesnt describe the use or possible fix of the worm screw assembly, and tbh the worm screw has massive play in it, and the bearings keep falling out which means they are worn, and as i have it apart and the money i might aswell put a new working part in there, if that doesnt fix it im in shit street and its a garage for me.i will try your explanation WF thankyou Quote
