I've ended up buying a helmet from somewhere that now seems particularly useless. bikersdirect.co.uk/

They've taken money and I've got an email saying my account has been created, and that I'll get a seperate email "if my order has been successful".. WTF?!? I've recieved nothing and they didn't pick up the phone this morning. I needed the helmet by the weekend, but I guess that's not going to happen from these guys.

Where do you guys shop? Is there some kind of one stop shop for bike gear?

I'm a bit picky and place didn't have the helmet in the colour I wanted, so I had a look for it online. Here's what I was after:

Spoken to a chap this morning. Not sure what was going on yesterday, but they didn't seem to be picking up the phone.

So, their ordering processing system is broken. If they don't have the item in stock, you get no confirmation of your order. It says 'if your order is successful', you will get a second email about it, but you only get that once they've ordered the item in (days). There's nothing to tell you that though. It just looks like your order has disappeared. It also tells you you can track the order, but you can't until it becomes 'successful', but again, nothing tells you that.

In summary, they don't seem bad, other than the fact their online ordering system doesn't handle the out-of-stock issue. I expect for every order they have for an item that's out of stock, they get a phone call chasing it.

Tried the helmet on in-store, and it fits perfectly. The shop couldn't order the colour I was after though.

Harsh? I'm just used to getting confirmation when you order something, not an email telling me my order may or may not have been successful.

my apologies, but it has been known for people to air there grievances about a company, and not all is justified, this being an open forum..

the email you posted, would be what i would expect when you register with a web-based company,

I would have expected another e-mail confirming the order/reciept of the order, some sited do this as the item is ordered.

and then a further one with either the item has been dispatched or status.. however not all sites do this, and they hold the order until all the items have been readied prior to sending.. had this with MandP,

they have a fall down with there site, which hopefully they will lokk into resolving.

glad you have an answer,

I'd be very wary of buying a lid online. Who's to say how carefully the Post Office will handle it? At least when lids arrive at retailers they are secured and cushioned on pallets.

I'd rather have one shipped in it's original drop tested and QA'd packaging, rather than take one from a shop that's been out of it's box. I've just been through designing packaging for a large electrical product, and I hate to think what they do to packaging for bike helmets. I'd trust the packaging. They'll do at least 6' drop tests with it.

Hein Gericke, Infinity and race visors.com do everything I need, and no I'd never buy a lid online. How you gonna know it fits properly?

The helmet fits because I tried it on in a shop, they just didn't have the right colour, and couldn't order it. Cheers for the suggestion though.
