Pete Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 What're people opinions of bar muffs (people that have used them specifically!)?!The colder weather is beginning to bite, especially on the longer journeys and I'm going to install another set of Oxford Hot Grips (I say another, it'll be the first set for this particular bike, second for me). However the hot grips only tend to keep your palms and palm-side of the fingers BBQ'd, but the top of my paw still gets icy cold. Will some nice beefy muffs (haha) do the trick and, ideally, allow me to wear my favourite non-bulky summer gloves underneath? Quote
Guest akey Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 from experience yes they will.I used to use just the muff and they made a huge difference, with heated grips it should be great. Quote
MtotheJ Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I was thinking of the content of this thread being very different when i opened this Now, as a result of this, i can't help...sorry! Quote
Pete Posted October 9, 2009 Author Posted October 9, 2009 (edited) What else would you think I was talking about when I said beefy muffs? Cheers akey! I'm going to have a pop at MAKING some Now I've decided that all I need is some ballistic nylon (I think that's what it's called. The really heavy duty stuff that they make tool belts out of for burly manly builders who are manly and quite burly). I also need some fleece or sheepskin as I've decided that fake fur would just get soggy and nasty and hard to clean, though it would look cool (I'm thinking purple with pink spots...). My mum's just got hold of a sewing machine so I'm going to see if it can hack some hardcore muff piercing...Oh yes and some velcro for down the one side so I can open my muff wide open for cleaning.EDIT: Better than nylon!http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/50cm-x-75cm-Water ... _600wt_818EDIT: And lots of nice patterned fleece to chose from. Which is your favourite?:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/60-inch-Width-Dee ... 500wt_1182http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Soft-Anti-Pil-Fle ... 1175wt_939http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Polyester-Fleece- ... _658wt_939http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Polyester-Fleece- ... _757wt_939http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FARMYARD-polar-fl ... 958wt_1165http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LUXURY-GRADE-POLA ... _500wt_956I think I like the blue sheep one! Guest Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I have some Motrax muffs..used them for a few winters..keep my hands warm without heated grips, Not pretty but do the job. Quote
nman1 Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Look bloody ridiculous but then I don`t give a shite. They worked for me last winter in some extreamly cold weather. Don`t go too fast with them as they can tend to nudge the brake / clutch lever in. Quote
Guest Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Real lambs muff is what you want Pete.http://img.alibaba.com/photo/12217261/Healthy_hand_muff.jpgContains Lanolin to keep your hands soft. Comes "pre-blushed" too. Quote
nman1 Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Pre-blushed, and thats with just ya hand up it`s arse. Quote
