Ok - so my man of the moment is a mechanic - great! Cept getting information on 'how do I?' is like blood from a stone!

Happy to do stuff for me but reluctant to help me do it myself....why?....not a clue!!

Fact is I would ike to be able to do basic stuff myself - such as - checking and maintaining my chain.

Handbook with bike is not v helpful, have done a BIT of research but seem to get conflicting advice.....clean with paraffin/wd40/ bits of cardboard to protect sprockets WHAT??!! etc etc - and HOW?

Somebody steer me thru this miniminefield ...please!

Any help much appreciated -

Just check tension and lube regularly...should be ok no real need to clean it if you dont want and As i never have done dont know why you would need to cover sprockets :?

I clean the section of chain on the rear sprocket, and then turn to get to the next bit, a good handled brush, (toothbrush?? i find too small...) and some paraffin, then dry with a rag, and then lubricate... i've cleaned mine twice this year, but lubed before every big ride out.,. (i have a spray bottle and give the chain on the rear sprocket a squirt, as i'm riding the oil makes its way into the rest of the chain, popular products are loobman and scottoiler.. (google)

DO NOT USE THE ENGINE to turn the wheel, and watch where your pinkies are at all times, turning the wheel with your hand in the chain, whilst distracted, will result in sore fingers minimum.. as some on here have found out..

Thanks for the link. I didn't spot that post. Great stuff guys. I like the look of the Muc-Off Chain Doc and was planning on trying it when I get paid. Anyone have any experience with that particular product?
