Waterproof bike covers

First of all, this isn't a power-ranger post to keep my bike looking all shiny for the few sunny days we get...

Pretty much every day this week my bike has been caught out in some pretty bad rain and wind and apart from getting wet my main concern is for the mechanics and electrics getting some unnecessary ware on from being left out in such poor conditions for so long. Does anyone know where to get a waterproof throw-over cover for it just to protect it from the weather outside? Also, how would you keep the thing on it? I get to look out and check on the bike at breaks at work but there's nothing to stop a cover from just flying off - are there any you can buy that prevent this or any home-made-remedies?

I'm hoping to go to the Carole Nash show at the NEC sometime at the end of the month so would I be better off waiting to see if they have anything there?

Lastly, what kind of things to I need to be taking extra special attention to from it being rained and winded on for hours at a time in the week? Is there any thing that could build up to long term problems? What should I keep my eye out for?

There you go boss. It has a clip that goes underneath the bike to keep the sides down and together, its elasticated around the wheels providing full cover. It comes with a nice little carry pack..

Its heat-proof too, meaning it wont melt on your exhaust.

Just look for the right size for your bike (e.g. if u only have a 125, u wont need large).

EDIT: Long term problems will be rust. And rust can f**k up pretty much anything! It could rot your frame away, ruin your exhaust, ruin your chain...

as above, but if you get a small strap with grip clip (like a mini tie-down strop), from a camping shop then you can secure the middle bit, i have had a bike go over due to the cover inflating, and then hooking the front and rear and pulling it off a centre stand...

I use the cover previously linked to when I'm at work, the rest of the time it finds a garage. I paid £19.99 at my local HG store and it's brilliant. It's been 100% waterproof so far. I left it on the floor at work to dry one night and someone must have stood on the clip and broken it, yet even in high winds it's still not come off. I do park it in the corner for protection though.

I'm happy with it so far anyway.

Whatever cover you get make sure it's breathable. If you don't get a breathable one then water will just stay inside...and rust your bike!

or give yr bike a nice quick dry off before u put the cover on! I dont think u can get something thats both waterproof, AND breatheable!

Plenty of waterproof materials about. eVent, Goretex, etc...don't think they'd be used on a bike cover though, but yes they do exist!

I will probably go with the Oxford one posted first in a smaller size to be honest since I know I could rely on it, trouble is trying to fit it in a backpack. I will probably wait until the NEC show since there's bound to be an Oxford stand of some sort so would be better to handle with own hands before purchase.

Once packed in it's carry bag, it's about A4 size.

As CobbZ says, it's pretty small once folded. I don't fold mine neatly at all, just very roughly and then stuff it in. It's still really small and fits in it's own bag in seconds. You could easily fit it in a small tank bag, let alone a backpack.

use one of these around the centre of the bike, the std little clip fails..

Does anyone know if the R&G Superbike cover will be O.K for my CRB125? I know it states that one size fits all but I’m worried it may be a bit big and end up getting blown about all over the place.

If it fits a Pan, i doubt it will also fit a CBR125. They're quite small bikes! lol.

Could you ask to try it out on your bike?

I personally would go for a different brand in Small. But its up to you really.

I was planning to order it through the internet. If this is too big for my CBR any suggestions on what might be more suitable?

Being as though this thread was revived, I may as well update that I bought the cover Cobbz posted at the NEC bike show last weekend, so I'm sorted. Works like a charm and quite compact.
