jnr_zx6r Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Hi guys, I have just tried my leathers on today just to see if the jumper i brought would fit over the jacket and i noticed that the zip that joins the jacket to the trowsers splits apart when i zip it up (if you understand) basically the teeth are not joining together.I was just wondering if i can get someone to replace the zip for me as i guess the zip will be stiched with triple stiching or something like that so i wont bother doing it myself I do though have a smaller zip with it too that is fine so i can still ride Wednesday Quote
techno Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Am sure if you search around there'll be a leather epair shop nearby where you are....i never zip mine together lol Quote
jnr_zx6r Posted January 3, 2010 Author Posted January 3, 2010 Am sure if you search around there'll be a leather epair shop nearby where you are....i never zip mine together lol I didnt really think about that as i thought the style of stitching would need a specialist What happens if you slid off though would the leather jacket not creap up?(can you tell i havnt ridden before ) Quote
techno Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 well it didnt lol..but i just dont like them ziped together and the zips dont match properly anyway Quote
jnr_zx6r Posted January 3, 2010 Author Posted January 3, 2010 oh lol well in that case i will just zip up the small zip at the back and not worry too much about the other one Thanks for the replies Quote
Colin the Bear Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Doesn't the zip sew onto a piece of elastic? Any seamstress should be able to replace it with a matching zip. I use the zip to keep draughts out. Don't forget to undo it when you go to the loo Quote
Ingah Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 What happens if you slid off though would the leather jacket not creap up?(can you tell i havnt ridden before ) To be honest i'd prefer that you've never experienced a jacket creeping up during a slide - i get the impression it's distinctly unpleasant! From what i've heard (fortunately i've avoided it thus far), they can ride up, and it will hurt if it does (road rash). However, my leather jacket is touring style (i seem to have a "touring style" body shape as my textile trousers are too), and doesn't have a zip so i don't have this luxury. It does fit reasonably tightly though so i'd hope mine didn't (best i could do on finite budget and the choice of shops). You need a good zip to race, but then those crashes are rather fast Quote
Guest Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 if its leather stitching then look for a bike leather repairs or horse tackle repairs, they both have needles that will do the job, had a cuff zip done cost about £30.. Quote
Netmeister Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Not sure if you have it done yet but...After an off on track I got my 360 degree waist zip replaced for £50 by a motorcycle leathers shop. You'll have to get both the jacket and trouser zips replaced as they probably won't have a match for your trousers.Colin you're sort of right. The top half of the zip is just attacked to a bit of stretchy material, the bottom however was actually sown into the seams between the leather, on sports leathers anyway. Quote
