Coume Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Hello,I have put 200miles or so on my new XJ6 and I was wondering if I should install a tank pad..I know it is a fairly stupid question but I have no idea if they are really a must have or not because you can find some 4-5y.o. bike without one where the tank is still perfect so I'm not sure what to do :/So if you believe that tank pad are a must-have or on the contrary, that they are useless, I would love to hear your thoughts ThanksLudo Quote
Guest Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Stops you scratching the tank - therefore extremely useful and sensible but you won't die without one. Quote
Guest Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 as above - stop the zip scratching the tank, but there are many styles available, so you should be able to find one you like.. Quote
Pete Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Stops you scratching the tank - therefore extremely useful and sensible but you won't die without one. If you don't have a tank pad you could scratch through the tank with your zip, spray yourself in petrol and the petrol could ignite then you'd die horribly........(bad) jokes aside they're a good idea for what's been said - it stops your paint getting scratched. That's the only reason. I've just bought a Baglux leather tank cover for my bike, looks like this (mine is red to match my bike, don't know why you'd get a different colour, but each to their own!):http://www.rigsville.org.uk/photos/Lblackbird_3.jpg Quote
MtotheJ Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Not essential but protects the tank and can break up the plain colour over a tank to make it look a bit more erm...funky? Quote
Petarded Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Some of the foam ones might give a lil protection for your nads if you have to stop rather quickly. Quote
