Adam Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 As the title says my bike wont start, It was running fine the other day. But when I got on it last time I put my foot on the gear lever by accident and now when I try to move the bike the wheels just lock up and it wont start. The battery isnt dead as everything else works fine, but when i press the starter button nothing, it doesnt even make a noise.Any help would be appreciated but bare in mind I have no idea when it comes to mechanics so keep it simple please and thank you in advance.EDIT: By the way its a 2002 honda nsr 125 rr foxeye Quote
Guest Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 This may sound silly but, you reckon its just still in gear?Try starting it with clutch pulled in, if not, try getting it into neutral and then starting. If not, go for a bump start Quote
Guest Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Agreed, sounds like it's still in gear. If it won't click easily into neutral, try rolling the bike back and forward slightly to make the wheels turn a fraction - this may unstick the gearbox and make it easier to shift back into neutral. Guest Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Also, killswitch? You'll be able to tell if the battery is f**ked cos your lights, horn e.t.c. wont work. Quote
Guest Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 in gear, stand down, won't start.... ummm wonder why??? Quote
Adam Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 in gear, stand down, won't start.... ummm wonder why??? stand isnt down.. Quote
rennie Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 well have you got it going then?sounds like it's stuck in gear to me!is the neutral light on? Quote
Guest Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 any news... could be the stand switch especially if its in gear.. Quote
Adam Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 neutral light is off so its in gear, but still nothing. When i tried to move it out the garage there is a resistance which i assume is because its in gear, so i pulled the clutch and moved it back and forth and it made some clicking noise but still wont start :[ Quote
Guest Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 It could be your neutral switch that is broken. If your not getting a neutral signal the bike won't even try to start. Sometimes they are quite easy to catch the switch with your foot and damage the connection which I would check first if it's possible you've done that, if not check the switch itself by removing it and checking open/closed ciruit with a multimeter. Try putting the connector on to the frame with ignition on and if it's in neutral the light should come on then this will tell you it's the switch also. Also check you fuses which I would do first before removing stuff. That's the best advice I can give with the info you said as I haven't the seen the bike. If it's making a clicking sound when trying to start then that is your battery, you lights etc will still work! A good battery should be about 12.7V then this will go up to about 14.4V when it's running providing it's a good battery. If your battery charge has dropped to 12V or less you will get a clicking noise when trying to start. Sounds to me like you need a new neutral switch and battery. Let me know how you get on. Quote
Guest Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Also, killswitch? You'll be able to tell if the battery is f**ked cos your lights, horn e.t.c. wont work. Your lights etc will still work until the battery has totally discharged itself. Even if the battery still has 12V in it the bike may not start as a normal good battery should be approx 12.7V Quote
Adam Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 where would i check the connection? sorry i have no idea about mechanics and its really annoying me i havent even ridden the damn thing yet!!! Quote
Guest Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Have you got a multi meter, if not can you borrow one. If you get one check your battery first as if it's clicking it'll probably be that. Take your seat off to access the battery then set the multi meter to volts(20v) make sure the black wire is in the common port on the multi meter. Put the red on positive and black on neg and it'll tell you how many volts in the battery. I'll pm you with my number if you want to ring me then I can help you better. Quote
Guest Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Would be a lot easier to just bump start it for now Quote
Guest Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 get the bike out of gear and the battery on charge.. sounds like you have discharged the battery trying to start it hence the starter relay clicking... Quote
Adam Posted February 14, 2010 Author Posted February 14, 2010 get the bike out of gear and the battery on charge.. sounds like you have discharged the battery trying to start it hence the starter relay clicking... No the clicking noise i was refering too was the gears when I moved the bike, when I press the starter button nothing happens. I think I managed to get it out of gear there isnt any resistance when I try to move the bike anymore. I will attempt to get the battery out and charge it, will I need a specialist bike charger? If so how much is that gonna set me back? thanks for the help so far everyone Quote

Adam Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Me and my brother tried bump starting it, but it just makes a low growl and stalls. Its not making a noise when I try to start it like its trying to start but just doesnt fire up. Could it be the spark plugs? Also the other day I noticed some oil underneath the bike in various places.. Quote
