Guest Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Is NIKWAX TECH the way to go? Just want to wash them in the washing machine but not jepodise the waterproof (ness) of the jacket? Any other idea? Thank you Quote
Gavskin Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 im pretty sure you get two bottles, one for cleaning and one that re- waterproofs both used in the washing mashine Quote
Guest Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I would not wash my textiles in the washing machine as I would fear the detergents in there from previous washes would severly damage them, but if others think it is a good idea??? Quote
Guest Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 mine have been in a few times, just hang em on a hanger on the line and spray with Nikwax, and dont put on a boil wash...or jump in the shower with em on, hand wash style...just remove the linings and armour first.... Quote
Guest akey Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I always run mine through the washer:Make sure the detergent draw is really well cleaned you dont want any standard detergent in there at all (we always use in wash stuff anyway).Use Nikwax techwash to wash and then the the reproofing stuff after, both are done in the washing machine so just do one after the other. Then let dry naturally. My textiles are well over 2 years old and still waterproof / clean. Quote
Guest Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Ok so you do two separate washes, one for wash and one for waterproofing or you put one in the detergent draw and one in the softener draw? would you do it on a quick wash? It's not that they need 'cleaning' as such just covered in road kill, tried a hot wet cloth and that doesn't get em off, any other options? Quote
spunky1976 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 i used this the other week its two different washes one for wash then another for the reproof.did mine on the quick wash that our machine does about half an hour.end result is my kit is all waterproofed up again and tested in recent rain we've had Quote
Guest Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 As Akey says, I use washing machine. And I have tested mine in some serious rain and snow, no ill effects!Ruthie, detergent in detergent drawer for wash.Waterproofer in same detergent drawer for waterproofing cycle. So thats 2 different cycles. At least thats the way i have always done it EDIT: oh and I use Nikwax Tech Wash, and Nikwax Direct TX as well Quote

Most good bike shops will sell fabric waterproofer, camping & caravan outlets will sell proofer for awnings & tents, nikwax is also good,, So which ever is easier to get your hands on,,, spray it outside & don't sniff it or you'll be away with the faeries,,,,,,, Quote
Guest Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 BE WARNED!!!!The last time I washed a textile jacket it cost me a new washing machine! The NikWax washing liquid is very foamy and might damage your machine too - USE SPARINGLY! Quote
