I wouldnt buy a one piece set of leathers as all it takes then is for one off and a bad landing and you could do a fair amount of damage to them! I find they are only good on tracks where you go fast enough to warrant something that slows you down as well as a good one piece does.

The difference between a 1 piece and a 2 piece is literally in the name. 2 piece lets you alter what you wear, though I believe they dont act as well as the 1 piece in terms of protecting you in an off on the road it doesnt make much of a difference!

Textiles are what I tend to wear and the reason for that is whereas leathers dont rip easily and have armour, textiles come built in with a lot of padding and armour on the good sets. And they are sewn up so they dont tear in an accident. Leathers will protect you with better effect than textiles though textiles for me are much more comfortable and the extra padding gives me a greater feeling of safety :)

If you are a serious, hard going rider and like a spirited ride I would reccomend you get leathers.

If you are a town rider or long commuter and like to go distance then you get the touring textiles.

Though this said, very soon a new type of textile like material is coming onto the market and has the strengths of both and the weaknesses of neither. BIKE keep raving about it being the next big revolution but the name escapes me.

On a tight budget, Planning to ride in all weathers,

Leathers or Textiles? One Piece or Two?

Which and Why?!

:)

2 piece textiles - for protection & weatherproof, and unless you can try same sort on in a shop before you buy from EBay you just have to take pot luck with the fit.

Might I suggest one of these...

As you see they come in a variety of colours so should be easy enough to match whatever bike you get...

Also these to protect your feet...

Some people need to help themselves a little ..... just about everything he has asked, i have run past my 13 year old daughter, who has no problem with coming to a logical answer!

Agreed, the questions he has asked are a little simple and can be found out with a simple Google/forum search, but this is supposed to be a nice friendly site not like the eliteist specialised bike forums out there. I know none of you are doing this with real anger or anything towards him and its all a bit of fun but it doesn't look good to other newbies or people that are lurking and deciding weather to join or not.

I see it far too often on other boards where someone come and has absolutley no idea about the subject they are asking about and people jump on em like a bunch of wolves, I know it puts me off when I look around!

Not starting any arguments here, just puttin my 2 cents in.........

bot contradictory there mate...

also the bit in red.....1 bad off and you will damage them, so your saying get textiles or a 2 piece instead of a 1 piece???? WTF??? leather will protect you better in a slide, a 2 piece is only as strong as the zip holding both bits together so probably not that strong, and be honest would you zip it together every time? probably not....

textiles for all round riding, if you can afford both then get both if not textile...

At the end of the day we all have preferences... i prefered leather, but since i stopped smoking I cant get in them, so I now have textiles..... either are better than none :)

I actually feel sorry for you, my girlfriend is in a similar situation, I bought her textiles when she was gyming it up six days a week, now she's packed it in and put a little bit of weight on, not much, but enough to make her textiles a bit too cosy. She's after leathers now but I'm reluctant to buy any in case she starts the gym again.

Ahaha the mrs just bought me some leather trousers...they're the right size or so she thought, but they are too tight..because I put on some weight since the last time she bought me anything :D

On the plus side, it gives me more incentive to lose weight...I've lost nearly a stone in 3 months..not that great I know but I'm only half trying :P I think losing just half a stone more should crack it!

Vicki really needs something leather or textile that doesnt have zips tbh

I have 2 piece leathers and never zip them together and a textile jacket for the winter!

Buy what you want and can afford or ride in anything as long as you wear a helmet to satisfy the law!
