Coume Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Hello,I just discovered that Hottrax are running novice only trackdays to attend with your Road bike only (No Slicks or tyre warmers are allowed.). They are cheap too, only 99GBP.Does anyone have any experience of them? I am strongly considering doing the August one but not sure, if going on a track with my road bike would be a good idea :/ThanksLudo Quote
Netmeister Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 The fact that Hottrax have organised these road bike only track days just shows that you have nothing to worry about.I've already done a track day on my road bike and it was fine, and I plan to do a few more. If you go out there with a sensible head, go easy and build your speed gradually you have nothing to worry about. Go for it Quote
Guest philgale Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Go for it...the new sillystone track looks sweet can't wait to do itas it's a novice only day with only road bikes no warmers slicks etc your not gonna get any fast group riders on it so everyOne will be of similar stadardyou won't regret it just be prepared to spend a hell of a lot of money on it as you will get addicted Quote

Coume Posted June 1, 2010 Author Posted June 1, 2010 That's kind of the idea. Try for a day on my road bike this year and if I enjoy it, buy a track bike next year to do several days I've some questions..- If I go with a my road bike, should I expect to kill my tires in one day? I don't believe that it would be the case but I have no idea how rapidly tyres get used on a track...- Insurance: Have you got any insurance to recommend? Because I would not feel confident about going on a track for the day without any insurance?I noticed that they also offer a 1-2-1 instruction for the day at a price which seems fairly reasonable (199GBP - is it expensive in your opinion?) so I may as well do it properly rather than just go on my own and hope for the best ThanksLudo Quote
Guest philgale Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 I don't have insurance, might be worth ringing your insurance company as your not gonna be racing or involved in timeing so you may be covered1-2-1 is prob worth it if your looking at really improving I'd say after a few days, not your first day you will have enough going on in your mind.Just go out chill take it easy have a laugh and come home Quote
Coume Posted June 1, 2010 Author Posted June 1, 2010 Thanks a lot Phil I need to do some maths, including the purchase of a 1 leather suit before doing an impulse purchase but it is indeed very tempting! Quote
Netmeister Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Just another note on tyres.Road tyres are actually designed to last longer than all out track tyres, by this I mean a sports/sports touring tyre, not a super sticky barely legal road tyre.I've known people to get about 5k and about 4-5 track days out of their road tyres. Also, if you're worrying about if road tyres have enough grip, I heard a chap say he actually ran in the fast group with his (Bridgestone BT-021) so you'll be fine Quote
Guest philgale Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 You won't push a road tyre beyond it's limits on your first track day...They should cover it in briefing but you will need to drop your pressures in your tyresAlso tape up all mirrors lights etc Quote
